I've heard that I can get a colour value from a Canon Rebel camera.
Could someone tell me how?

I'd be guessing as to where I heard this. I'm hoping to find someone both familiar with these cameras and the procedure. I appreciate that if you look at something very long you get used to it so eyeballing adjustments is pointless.
I just replaced a picture tube and eventually I get to start at the beginning of setup so I thought I'd do some homework. Money is a little tight at the moment so buying test gear is not an option. My daughter has a Canon Rebel that was bought for her college course but she doesn't know how to get these readouts.

Couldnt you take a photo and then load it onto the computer and use some Adobe software to look at the colour values?

Normally when you calibrate you take continuous readings (every second or two) and make adjustments. What would normally take a few hours would take WEEKS if you had to take a photo, load it onto the computer, view the values.
I'd spend $50-100 on a simple colorimeter.
