Hi Everyone,
I got a question from a friend about colors for their HT.
I built their system about 3 years ago, a basement room, false wall with 3m wide screen, in-wall speakers. see pics below.

Now they want to go to the next step of going towards a real HT room color wise.

They do not want a black ceiling, dark grey would be ok,
but the side and rear walls need to be a different color to the front wall, which will be a dark red/brown color, same as mine HT (last Pic). Wow, this is a really old pic from when we moved in!!

Any suggestions or advice would be Much Appreciated.

Also the window in Pic 2, is blacked out, so no natural light in the room.

Dark neutral gray fits with almost any color. Thumbs Up

I had dark gray walls in my old theater and those fit fine with wood floor, black effects and dark blue drapes.

the colour you have for the front wall (nice logans.....) is darn close to the colour i had for the ceiling of my previous room. in a flat not a gloss finish. with the lights out there was no reflection from the ceiling during movies.

I Love my Logans, with the wall color, they disappear when the lights go out, have a wall of sound.

I Like the grey on the walls, and the blue also sounds good,I would be able to add sound panels in blue to breakup the walls.

zaphod, what were the wall colors if the ceiling was the deep red/brown color??

the walls were wrong Smile

my girlfriend at the time insisted on a venetian plaster treatment that was not only light in colour but shiny. nice wall reatment but very very wrong for a theatre. although when we did the room the intent was music and not theatre, so that kind of excuses the choice.

here is a picture before the ceiling was replaced.

Here is one after the conversion to theater - screen up with the red ceiling peeking out.

and screen down

you can see how reflective the walls are - those lights in the corner are using refrigerator bulbs - not very much output at all, but bouncing all around the corners.

No colors any more I want them to turn black.....

Those walls are very reflective, those lamps even low wattage, really do spill a lot of light.
Maybe you should spray the lamps with a little black paint, to reduce the output, or just the tops.
