This has probably been clarified a trillion times but I am to stupid to find it.
A mate has a XG75 with worn P16LJE08HKA tubes. Ho also has a set of decent PGxtra tubes P16LJE08HKA (green)P16LJE09BMB (blue) and P16LJE09RJA red. Can those simply be swapped. He also has plenty of xtra chassis for spares if needed.
THanks

pretty sure that only the green from the xtra will fit the XG the blue and the red being too short.

AFAIK the XG only accepts the green NEC PG Xtra tubes from the 6PG/9PG Xtra. The Green tube is bigger than the red and blue (at least you would think it should be since the PG series is 7" and XG is 8" tubes)

Jeremy, a P16 tube is an 8 inch tube, not a 7 inch tube. Any PG XTRA set has got 8 inch tubes. A PG plain or PG Plus has got tube larger that 7 inch but under 8 inch, and these are genuine NEC tubes, or E8508 tubes as they are named.
This has come up numerous times before RE the fact that 09s will take the place of 08s, and i dont remember the outcome. HOWEVER i was told be a man who is well and truly in the know about these machines that the ONLY reason the 08s cant go into a PG XTRA is cause they are a touch longer, and you wont get the swing on them without modding the chassis abit. Big deal. They will work electrically, which as far as im concerned is all that matters.
I am not sure if the 09s can take the place of the 08s electrically. If you measure the lengths, you might find they are not much different and i doubt this will be much of an issue.
I will make a phone call and see if i can find out some info on the difference in length, cause im pretty sure Aussie Al on this forum has measured the difference in length ( prior to his purchase of XGs, we had plans of moving his tube mounts forward in his 9PG XTRA and using the brand new P16P16LJE08 set he has there... )
The HKA on the end is only the green tube

Just got off the phone with Aussie Al, he will open the lids on the XTRA and XG and measure the tube neck lengths at some point soon.

Thanks for your support guys.
The xtra blue and red tubes are indeed shorter than the XG tubes, that is why the XG tubes wont fit into the xtra chassis. At least some say so an I never tried it. The question is, if the shorter xtra tubes can be put into a XG with worn tubes and if any electronics would need to be changed too.
Cheers

The magnetics from the XG won't fit on the shorter blue and red tubes.

I may have been wrong about the tube size, but I was still correct in that they wont work in an XG lol

well I've got a xg751 with good red/blue but a bad green that I want to replace with on from my spare xtra. I just haven't been that inspired as my other XG with burned tubes still looks great. I might tear it apart and do the swap today/tomorrow so I can let you know the exact difference.

I've tried it, and even if you can get the yokes to fit ( I think I cut the mounting clamps off way back when to get them to fit), the shorter tubes of the Xtra will not focus properly. that extra 1/2" is crucial of the XG tubes.

So that means the xtra yokes won't fit with the XG connectors? Whatever, if focussing doesn`t work the case is closed, right?
