Once in a while, I hear a snapping noise that sounds like it’s coming through my right front speaker. I began to suspect it might be HV arcing but couldn’t find any evidence of it. With the cover off I never noticed any “blue fire” and since the PJ was serviced last May there is no buildup of soot on the leads or anywhere else. The image is not affected when the snapping takes place. Both the HV/LV power supplies were modded and tested by Tim so I’m not inclined to see that as the cause.

My blue tube was an early generation VDC rebuild and it has worn faster than normal so I’m wondering if this could be a result of internal contamination or if in fact it’s external arcing.

Thoughts or Suggestions?

Guys

Any arc loud enough to be heard would likely throw the picture out of focus for a second; maybe try running the system with the audio powered off, the audio may be your noise source.

Good point, I spent hours adjusting my HDQ porch timings and didn't hear a single snap. Audio was turned off so that makes sense.

Thx
