Hi,

Just need some advice between glycol vs Techspray Projection CRT TV Coolant.

I'm seeing fungus on my tubes and wonder if buying Techspray Projection CRT TV Coolant could solve my problem.

Does this CRT coolant perform better than glycol in term of picture quality? Rolling Eyes

In theory 25% glycerine in crt fluid elevates glycols refraction index bit closer to acrylic/glass index, but in practice you can't see difference in PQ compared to straight glycol or distilled water. I haven't tested water and here it could cause damage during transport in winter time.

I wouldn't use ethylene glycol if you can see even small area of non coated aluminium in liquid chamber, because ethylene glycol corrodes aluminium. Commercial crt fluid should be tab better, because those have addition against corrosion.

Propylene glycol is one option, it shouldn't corrode aluminium, it's not hazardous like ethylene glycol and doesn't get ice like water. (probably not biggest issue there) I have used straight propylene glycol in air coupled tubes and mixed it with glycerin (75/25) in liquid coupled tubes. Both have worked fine for years.

My machine is Marquee 9500. I used Tech Spray when I installed bellows 2 years ago....I got fungus, or some slimy blobs. So no, Tech Spray will not stop it. Fungus is a reaction with the chambers.

I really would like to thank both of you for your valuable feedback. Initially I was about to order Techspray CRT coolant but now, I'm convinced to try propylene & glycerine (75/25%) combination.

wise decision.

that is what i have now in my chambers, could have sent me a pm Wink.

edit: distilled water doesn`t work, refractive index differs too much from the glycol glycerine mix.

You have to clean the chambers with bleach and clean water to kill the bacteria. There is any screws that are of a different substance you need to coat the the screws to keep the reaction down. The bacteria comes from the screws.

Then refill.

Marquee has issues with this because the bellows are porous and I would recommend the upgrade as well there is a person selling new ones to replace your old . So you have a few issues.

1,2,3,propanetriol.

byproduct from soap making from different fats, vegetable fat, animal fat, shouldn`t make a difference as long as the chemical structure is the same.
