Make sure you leave a chaperone when you leave the room or you'll end up with a bunch of little grey Sony's running around Laughing

Dave, its a joke mate. How would you ever get in to converge them? Laughing

Air is discharged through the base, and drawn in through the front. No air sucked in through the top.

Ah, memories. My first CRT projector was a Sony 1042q that I bought for $50 that had a wire disconnected from the power jack. Fixed it up & ran 480i on a 72" 4:3 screen for a couple years. That got wife excited about 'big screens' and went on to get a 65" Toshiba CRT RP HDTV a couple years after the Sony.

Flip the red and blue tube positions around in one of the sets and give it a try

I know the OP was kidding, but to everybody else - don't bother trying a stack with one of these older machines. I tried a 127x stack, and those machines just don't have enough geometry control to be able to get things converged. The linearity was just too far off between the two machines. There was a huge swath in the left-third of the screen that was very bad, and there was no way I could correct it. Of course, 12xx's aren't that sharp to begin with, so the stack didn't help matters any. But, the doubled brightness and contrast was definitely alluring.

Why would you need to swap tubes, Jeremy?

Yes Jeremy, why would i need to swap the tubes? Laughing Would give me more even colour across the whole screen if i leave it as it is!! Wink

The Crabb is is right though, these dont really have alot in the way of convergence adjustment, you DO get a lot of range on some things, but this is like a rear pro TV with 9 point static convergence and vertical keystone + H and V pincushion...

Id say you could quite easily hard edge blend them, but the join would likely be always visible too.

Nice one CasetheCorvetteman, I haven't converged mine for a long time so forgot about it's limitations.

The air is drawn in from the bottom and blown out the top on mine, maybe that's why I have got over 80,000 hours on my tubes, better cooling. Wink

No mate, i dont think that is why. All the fans in the world isnt going to make SD187s last longer or hold their focus any better!! Laughing

The 1001 is quite abit better set than the 1000, brighter, sharper, better tubes, dual HV transformers, coloured glycol, better contrast, better convergence, digital onscreen static convergence adjustments, onscreen menus for colour, sharpness, contrast and brightness, 4 different settings for colour, sharpness, contrast and brightness ( 1 standard and 3 custom user adjustable memories ) and wireless remote controlled.

I know my previous 07MS tubes did about 60,000 hours in a 1001 that was running on average 16 hours a day, 363 days a year ( closed 2 days a year ) displaying sport and Keno on a 110" 4:3 screen, and was installed for abit under 12 years. After that, they were burned quite brown, and were MEGA soft. Pretty near useless really.

Id hate to think of what a set of SD187s would look like after 80,000 hours!!! But anyway, lets see some tube shots and screen shots!! Mobile phone camera through the blue and green lenses will do.
