|
|
I decided to setup my XG for the first time since I replaced the tubes in it today. Man the tubes just make it look beautiful again.
The problem I am having though is I noticed while looking into the lens of the blue tube, i saw it flickering slightly, the brightness of the tube flickers ever so slightly, the green and blue do not do this at all...
I am concerned something could happen to the projector (or worse yet, the tube) so any advice would be extremely helpful.
Also the raster is wrapping around behind itself on the right side (on all 3 tubes), however on the blue tube is where it is noticable, I can see it on screen, and I do not know how to make it go away...
I am running at 1680x1050 directly from the Xbox 360 via RGBHV to VGA, horizontal freq is 65.29khz, vertical is 59.96hz (so says the Source Info of the projector).

On what brightness? Once one marquee did this under my hands, but it was only when the brightness/contrast was set to very low levels, at normal levels it wasn't noticeable, and the pj still working fine.
Is this Xbox-raster problem emerged just after the tube replacement?

Contrast is 70% as is the brightness. That doesn't seem to affect it. I will admit I was in the Reference settings for color, I was trying to adjust the bright bias (which is the only thing that makes the blue raster dissapear if I lower it to 50) Unfortunately I need to have my bright bias for the blue tube at 65% so I can have proper colors. I don't have a colorimeter, and I know I should get one before messing with those settings.
It was while working with the bright bias and black bias that I noticed the tube flickering. I should note that it did stop flickering a bit after I was done messing with it.
The raster issue has been on this PJ before the new tubes. That is what makes me think it is a timing issue since the 360 has only so many resolutions and they cant be adjusted manually for the timings (obviously) (because microsoft does not assume you have an analog display if using the VGA cable, they assume everyone has cheap flat panels).
Gjaky, can you tell me, if I take a laptop and plug it into the projector with VGA, and set the resolution at 1680x1050, could you tell me what the proper timings would be for the projector? I really more or less want to see if thats what the issue is, this way I can stop freaking out that my projector is going to die again.

Here is a screenshot I took of it last night, I apologize for the horrible quality, my POS camera does not do well in low light,
you can see on the right the raster (which is behind the image) showing. Now as I said, this raster does appear on all 3 tubes but is ONLY visible on screen with the blue tube...

It is certain that the porch settings needs to be adjusted, NECs don't like the "stock" HD timings. Unfortunately I don't know what timings could solve your problem. With powerstrip it is fairly easy to find out the exact timings for that resolution.

As homer would say D'oh! that solved it! I never thought about that! That is why you do not work 10 hours straight, skipping meals, working on a CRT
thank you for that obvious suggestion gjaky! Now I am happy again!
To be honest I usually just dont use the blanking, on my 9PG Xtra, at the same resolution, this raster wrap did not occur, so I never used blanking, because I never noticed the raster.
Well that solves that mystery. I will be messing around with powerstrip though, I want to see what the actual timings should be.
Thanks again!

I'm glad it worked

Don't forget to turn off the blankings during playing with the timings...

If youre not getting the brightness from your blue for correct colours, maybe you have it focused too tightly on the blue. Try setting the blue defocus off, and getting it all as tight and sharp as you can, then set the defocus back on.
The defocus on the blus is there to brighten it up.
