Are these usually an issue?? I have 3 of them spare....
Just put a different one in and the picture seems to be improved...
The issue i was having is the red was quite dim on start up, and would ramp up and down every now and then... Doesnt seem to do it at all with this other GAIN CTL board in there....
Is this just a coincidence that is seems to have improved?? Or is this abit of an issue that pops up from time to time??

Do you mean gain control board or the Video output board? The output or driver boards tend to have a few leaking capacitors.
That alone causes problems.

Nah mate i mean the board that says GAIN CTL on it, its the one behind the video output board. Not the one with the big heat sink.
I have 3 spare of each, but the 3 spare video output boards i have are rather badly beat up from their trip to Australia... So none of those are ready to slot straight in...
The test patterns are also effected by this red issue, the red test pattern is quite dull, very hard to see til the set runs for a few minutes....

if something is getting better after warming up, then the problem is usually a leaking cap, even if all of them looking ok.

Well i found one and replaced it. Tested it and hard to say if its improved it yet or not. All 3 colours were WAY down after i put my original video out board back in, so i dont know if this is normal when the set has a different video out board in it.
Before i did that though, and this may be of interest to you GJaky, cause i cant remember what was the issue with your PG before you sold me all the spares, but when i used the best of the 3 video output boards you sent me, i had NOTHING at all. Tubes glow in the neck, but nothing at all on the screen, and no error number, just the double zero. Maybe this issue was the issue you were having?? No test paterns or OSD with that one either...

Well, it had that "no video" issue with all video out boards if I'm remember correctly, I got OSD, but nothing other, but since the tubes were spot burnt I didn't take effort to find the problem...

Well this one i tested didnt even have OSD or test paterns. The other 2 are pretty smashed up, and one has rust growing out of the pots along the top edge.
