Hi,

After having collected most of the parts for my new PJ, I now have started working on the different boards. This includes:

- Replacing most of the electrolytic capacitors (more than 140, I'm using Panasonic FC, FM & Nichicon PW)
- Measuring capacitance & ESR of the remining caps
- Checking for essential Mods (Filament, anamorphic, other Tech Bulletin stuff)
- Applying additional filtering on FCM, VDM, CVA etc.
- Cleaning up the chassis
- Replacing the fans

It's the last part where I need some help.
Obviously the fan manufacturers put most of their development effort into the 12V segment. It therefore is much easier to find affordable 12V fans which produce much less noise without having to live with less airflow. And this is why I would like to modify the LVPS section which produces the 24V for the stock fans.

Now and then parts of the LVPS schematics show up and I'm confident that there is a complete one out there somewhere (Scott???, Mike Parker???). So, if anyone has access to this schematic I would be very grateful if this person could send me a copy of at least the 24V section.

I already have thought of alternative solutions (additional voltage regulator, adding one fan and connecting three groups of each two fans in series etc.), but modifying the supply seems the cleanest solution to me. Of course I'm aware that the mod will make the LVPS and chassis unique and no longer interchangeable with stock parts and if anyone has a better idea I would be glad to hear about it...

Hi Barclay, just use the 12 volt regulator add on. it works great and use those Enermax Enobal bearing fans. I have had no issues.

Or you can use the rubber mounts for the existing fans and add a 22 ohm resistor in line to slow it down to a point where its safe.

Oh and leave the existing belly fans and just use the rubber mounts or use some acoustic 1/8 inch thick foam and silicone them down with a few drops.

I am not an E'home guru, but had some fun on two of them... As far as I know there is no accesible schematics from the LVPS (neither from HVPS) since they wasn't manufactured by E'home, as I know the power supplies were handled as replacement parts, they are "not repairable"

Nice list, I like how you marked the PCB cap locations.

I think I bought the remaining inventory of most of those BlackGate caps from parts connection and Sonicraft.

I only did one LVPS so far and did not do the Jea Hong lea mods to the Ultras yet. But I will.

HOLD IT! The fans are not noisy due to fan speed, they are noisy due to cheap bearings that degrade over time. Leave the circuits alone and drop in two Papst 3414NGLs for the LVPS, you will have nothing to complain about. The belly fans are not a source of noise, leave as is.

JUst read them from the motherboard. It does need a load and you wont damage the LVPS if you screw up Like iddi when I got my first Marquee.

And I know Tim is cautious but the 12 volt Enobal bearing fans work fine .

The belly fans are more of a concern, those should be left alone.

Update:

I've decided against the LVPS modification (24V -> 12V) but also against adding a voltage regulator -and- will be using 12V fans. I will go the same route as HK-Steve (see: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=829082) and add a fourth belly fan. By this I can connect them in series (two groups for the belly section and one for the LVPS). I had looked up prices for Papst fans (4414FL & 3414NL) and they really cost a fortune over here. The market for silent and performant 12V fans is so much broader that I'm confident I will find good ones.
