TV/Projector: All of them!

Posted: Wed Nov 16, 2011 12:19 am    Post subject: Hey Mac! Samsung LN-T4671- no sound

Here's an interesting one, got nothing on the web for it being a common issue:

Got in a Samsung LN-T4671 LCD TV. Full 1080p, etc. It was clicking, and it was obvious that the main power supply caps were open, I'd seen that part before. Replaced the 2200uF caps with new ones, and voila! Picture! (no scratches on the LCD screen either!).

The problem is, no sound. Nada. Speakers check OK, muting and internal speakers are off and on respectively in the menus. Speakers test OK. No audio out of the preamp outputs, no audio on any analog or HDMI input or the internal tuner.

Interestingly, the optical output LED is also dark, so it's as if all the supply voltages to the audio section have died, indicating a blown fuse somewhere. Problem is, I can't find it! The speaker output is out of the bottom right corner of the main board, but I see no audio chip nearby. The only chips on the motherboard that have heatsinks are CPU type chips, I was expecting a small 8-14 pin chip with or without heatsink to be the audio amp, and I see nothing that resembles that. The audio output should be reasonably beefy, there's two subwoofers and 6 mid high speakers total in this chassis.

Help? Smile
