Hi,
I bought a new set of bare tubes for my NEC XG 1350. I planned on converting it to an LC unit. I picked up a set of LC chambers that had a used Red & Blue and a bare Green chamber. I replaced the green tube and before I finish buttoning up the unit, should I replace the red and blue as well? How will the screen burn effect the image, if at all? Here's a pic. Tell me what you think.
Thanks,
Dan

If you have brand new tubes, then I would put those in. Alternatively, if you are going to run your picture inside the wear area then it might not be that bad on these tubes. Take a good look at the tubes and guess the wear based on the chart on this site. I have thought "6" and "7" rated tubes looked pretty good, although not as good as virgin phosphor. I guess at the end of the day if you put a lot of hours on the pj every year then I would burn these out before putting in the new tubes.

Well - the issue is that if you run the raster inside the wear pattern then the new green will
wear out prematurely, and then who cares about the new red and blue on the shelf?

I would run all the new tubes with as large a raster as possible, on a smallish screen
with lower contrast, then you could get a few thousand hours of really nice picture.

And isn't that the point really? the nice picture quality of crt - no point in hoarding tubes,
the sets aren't going to last forever anyhow - all new tubes has a magical quality to me,
lots of depth and perfect color balance etc. etc...

put them in, no sense keeping a less than full set on the shelf. I have 3 sets of spares from my daily machine, 801s barco but I see no wear in current tubes at more than 6000 hours.

you can always put the old ones back later if something kills one of your new ones. most likely the set will develop some other problem before you wear the new tubes out and digitals will cost 100-200 usd then. unless youre one of those guys who never turn the set off..
