I have a ELECTROHOME CRT PROJECTOR MARQUEE 8000 NO. 38-P13082-93 and the other night, my Satellite TV had an issue and the tubes in my projector went out. The machine turns on, but there is no light from the tubes. I've unplugged the machine overnight, but nothing happened.

How do I troubleshoot and/or find a local repair person in the Minneapolis Market to help me?

Thanks,
Greg

Any error lights on on the back of the PJ when the power is on?

I need some assistance. If I can't fix it, is there a market to sell the parts?

Greg: I've split your posts into a new topic. It had nothing to do with the sticky thread you originally posted in.

Try pressing the '#' button to see if any of the internal test patterns come up.

If not, pull the front cover off and see if the LVPS has any error lights on it.

I press it and the last light "C" lights up.

Hello

Disconnect your satellite box signal cables going to the 8000; turn the 8000 on and listen for the crackle/whoosh of high voltage coming on. If you have HV try pushing # for a test pattern.

Common failure modes on 8000s are neckboards, the horizontal deflection board, and the high voltage power section; the satellite problem is probably just a coincidence.

Tim, thanks. I tried and no luck. The big wind up of Power happens, but no light from tubes. Same error light "c" upon pressing #.

Hello

C is not an error light, it indicates the keypad works. You need to try unplugging the neckboard 14 pin umbilicals one tube at a time. If no good then the hcps, hdm or vim are suspect. remove front panel and look for leds lit on front of low voltage power section, an led lit may indicate a shorted chip or transistor somewhere in the machine.

Tim - I took the front cover off and found the leds.....they only blink for a nano-second when I plug the system in and don't do anything while operating. The fans are both moving though.

probably a bad vim or bad contact.
take out the vim and clean the contacts with alcohol and slide back in.

if you don`t have alcohol you can try to take out the vim and slide back in a few times to get the most oxidation of the connectors.

Here's a layout of the Marquee:

http://www.curtpalme.com/ElectrohomeMarquee_Layout1.shtm

With no error codes on the back, it makes it a bit more difficult to troubleshoot. Before you go too far, what year was the set made? (white sticker by the power cord input has the month and date on it).

That's new enough to continue. Smile

OK, so do what Tim said.

No picture usually means no high voltage, and the HV can be shut down by a bad LVPS. a bad HVPS, or a bad CRT socket/video amp. You can eliminate the video amps as being an issue by unplugging the wiring harness one at a time, and see if the other two tubes come up. If not, it could be the VIM as well (not as likely as a bad HVPS or a bad LVPS, and in that case you need to send your boards to Tim or I for testing/repair.

Oh, you can put your ear up to the outside of the LVPS, and see if you can hear a sound like a ticking time bomb. Very quiet, anywhere from 2-5 times a second. If so, the HVPS is arciing internally, and needs to be replaced. That's a pretty common failure at this point./

Don't forget the HDM not being seated correctly and the daughter board being not seated. On my old 8000 the HDM always came loose but no error light ever came on.

Also not sure if you skipped over my previous post
