Hardware:
XBox 360 Arcade
PS3 40 GB with 80 GB HDD
Sony VPH 1270Q Projector
HDFury (original with DVI in VGA out)
EXTRON branded RGBS cable that runs to the Sony 1270Q
Genaric PC switcher. mechanical in design. 2 inputs 1 output. used to switch between VGA XBOX and PS3/ HDFury combo.
Extron rgb 108 universal interface. VGA in RGBS out (to projector)

the test run, PS3 with HDFury to 20"Dell Trinitron monitor. resolves 1080p/i and 720p beautifully, although with some geometry adjustments. So the PS3/HDFury works as tested with Computer Monitor.

XBOX previously ran through Extron 108 with vga from XBOX to RGBS from Extron to 1270Q.

Introduced PS3/HDFury combo with VGA PC switcher to Extron 108 , 720p was fine 1080i had vertical jitter.

Removed Switcher and XBOX from the circut. PS3/HDFury to Extron 108 still had vertical jitter.

<overconfidence>

At this point I thought that bypassing the Extron 108 by soldering a 15 pin VGA male plug to the RGBS cable would be an idea since I suspected the Extron 108 was causing me grief. I wanted to go 1080i to get a sharper image than 720p. 720p looks good but just a tad soft. I had ran a test with my hd-dvd player using 1080i component (green) to the RGBS (green) to get a green but synced image at 1080i. Looked sharper than 720p so the there we go.

I then went to radio shack to get the VGA male plug I had mentioned about earlier. That melted while using my low watt soldering iron. I then hardwired the RGBS cable into the VGA switcher. This was done by soldering the RBG to the corresponding wires, Soldering th H and V VGA Sync to get the Composite sync for the RGB(s) and soldered all grounds together per tracing the boards insided PC VGA Switcher.

<dissapointment>

I am now not using the Extron 108.
XBOX works great, infact a bit of flicker I had before has been reduced.
PS3 was dim and the colors were horrible.Problems on 1080i and 720p. I switched the XBOX and PS3 inputs. Remember the switcher has 2 inputs. The problem folllowed the PS3. On the positve side the vertical jitter dissapeared So I think the Extron 108 is out of the picture.

The big question is can I put a VGA plug on a RGBS cable. I really want to get 1080i out of this setup.

If anyone has any Ideas or just wants to laugh, I will be sulking in the corner.

thank you

Give us your current hook up like this:

"Source---6 footHDMI.cable--->HDFury-----6 foot cable----projector"

Are you trying to run a long VGA cable off the HDFury1.

PS3 3 foot HDMI to DVI cable HDFury , to 40-50 ft of RGBS mini coax. to projector. yes I am tring to do a long run. the Extron 108 boost the signal to up to 1000 ft. unfortunatly it causes vertical jitter in 1080i. Oddly though the XBox does not have issues over the long cable run.

HDFury1 is meant to drive a 6 inch cable. That can cause issues. While not required on the PS3 or Xbox the power supply may help on your PS3.

Did you ever try re-centering the image with the Extron then use the RGB center adjustment to recenter things on the screen to see if the image doesn't jitter? Sometimes there's a sweet spot.

Alternatively you could pick up an RTC2200. Great box for driving cables. Or even a BUF2000.

No I never tried that with the extron. looks like I need to get the bnc's on the long run cable and set my gear to it's original point.

Thanks again

I have an Extron 202xi and I did allot of playing with that and the HDFury1 and Sony 1252. Definitely play with those settings.

I have resolution to the issues.

First I had missed that on the Extron there is a bank of DIP switches that has a vertical adjustment. Position on allows manual adjustment and causes grief with interlaced signals. I also made a new set of RGB cables out of RG-6 cables. Tried to use sync on green but it was a mess. made a separate sync cable to complete the RGBs and all is good. Added bonus, I had a slight flicker that has been fixed with the new cables. The extron cables that came with my purchase seemed inadequate for HD signals.

Ahhh yes, I didn't think of the DIP switches. All the Extrons have them I think. RG-6 cables are a nice upgrade too. Glad you got it going.
