can not get 1080i working on my Vidikron VPF50HD (ECP 4500)
it shows multiple images if I do... like several of the same images stacked, as in 2, 3 or 4 matching images on the same screen

How are you getting the HD signal to the projector? What hardware are you using from the source to the projector? Are the sync settings on the set on 'auto'?

The H and V sync buttons on teh back of the keypad should be set to auto.
Get a BNC T connector and combine the H and V cables and plug them into the H input. I'm sure that will do it.

Just curious -- did the T fix it?
I have same machine and run 1080i from an OPPO BRP-83 into HDF3 and then via 50ft nice RGBHV (with T) to the PJ without trouble (excepting a damn H-sync losses auto lock problem if machine cold). I think I hooked up the T right away as everyone had said to do so, so can't recall if I ever saw what it did if I didn't...
HDCP compliant 1080i RGBHV out of a HTPC? I didn't think they could do that directly via analog output -- looks like I'd better head over to the HTPC forum.
Cheers,
Matt, in Pittsburgh

You might make sure the H and V sync are set to auto on the PJ -- OR, manually set those values to the correct settings to check your auto sync -- it may not be functioning. From experience, my auto-sync sometimes goes out when the machine has not warmed up -- but if I manually adjust the values to near the correct values, it snaps into sync and all is well. The remote calls these HOLD as I recall...2nd row from the top in the middle.
Anyway, for 1080i the h sync should be 33.75kHz and vert sync (refresh rate) is 60hz. Might try that. When I shoot from my PC I just have it match my cabinet's touch screen monitor, it runs 1024x768 at 60khz and 75hz. Until I got digital cable (OTAs, basically) last week, I had only SD via my pc and didn't care...soon I sorta' will.
Incidentally, my understanding is the math works about like this:
Vert scan rate = horizontal scan rate / (#scan lines * 1.05)
where the 1.05 accounts for the beam flyback, etc.
So...
V = 33,750 horizontal / 540 * 1.05 = 59.52. I am sure there is a fascinating historical perspective on the nuances and specs to make this 59.94 or whatever it is. Note I used 540 as it is an interlaced signal.
Sorry, I have yet to educate myself on porch settings, polarity, and all that...it all works via my HD Fury III, that's all I know.
cheers,
Matt
