I bought a sony g70 projector. The person I purchased it from was an home theater installer going out of business. He hooked up a dvd and I watched Finding Nemo..which picture was excellent on a 120' screen.I brought it home..and dont know anything about crt's?how many hours are already on my tubes, ect.I started to line up the t pattern and pulling my hair out.I have a 103' 2:35 imax fixed screen. And I really would pay someone to set it up for me correctly. I am going thru and getting the hdmi card. But I'd really be happy if this was checked out..can anyone help? Michael 813-838-7078
And why did I get a crt? I have been down the road with lcd projectors..then went to a mitsubishi 73' dlp tv..still wasnt clear,or as clear,as a friend of mine who lives in pittmeadows,b.c.,canada that has a g90 that with their 1500 watt jbls shook the whole house watching Twister. The picture was amazing. So I was set on crt.

Wait, you know someone in Pitt Meadows, with a G90? How random is that? Sounds like someone I don't know, I've never sold or serviced a G90 in Pitt Meadows, about 5 miles from me.
Anyways, guys, help this guy out, I told him to post this..

Also, don't bother having someone set it up without a Moome card, it's would be a waste of time as everything will change with the different signal. If you can't find a hobbyist then you might have to fly in a pro calibrator but it's not cheap so you would need to find some other folks nearby needing a pro calibration to split the costs.

Yeah, definitely get a Moome card 1st.
If you're gonna take the ISF calibrator route, if I may, I highly recommend ChadB . Check out his website: HDTV By ChadB.
I'm in Riverview FL, just south of Brandon....just SE of Tampa (I used to stay in Tampa years ago) and Chad did a full ISF Calibration on my Marquee 8500 (that I got from Curt a few years back) just this past June, installing HD 145 lenses I got earlier this year from Joust, and Chad did a phenomenal job. I'm still marvelling @ the sharpness and color enhancement.
Unless Chad's changed his business policies (check his website and send him an email to find out), he doesn't charge travelling expenses! Although I was QUITE READY to go that route back in June; just wanted it set up properly from the get-go, with the lenses and all! So no travelling charges was just an added blessing . He spent 13 hours here doing his thing.
But contact him; he checks his email regularly.
If you want to see my rants and raves about the picture I NOW get after the lens install/calibration by ChadB, I posted it (back in June) in the JOUST MODS Forum here. I also left a "testimonial" on his website of my experience with him.

Guys, I actually suggested getting the set set up first so that he knows his way around the set, either via component via a DVD player or <cringe> Svideo.
NO sense in spending $280 on a Moome card if it turns out the tubes are badly worn...

My experience with CIR was fantastic ! I HIGHLY suggest after you have done everything you can do, get it as good as you can, Then let Craig work his magic. My G70 looks amazing ! The service craig provides afterward has been stellar also. I cannot say enough good things about Craig, He pulled me back from the abyss, now I enjoy my HT daily and I have Craig to thank for that. I would also suggest that you discuss with craig before you do your initial setup ,as he offers a lot of good advice on getting the most from your G70. Good luck and enjoy you are entering a wonderful world of entertainment and ALL the help you will ever need is right here on this forum. I am basically still new to this, I learn more about it daily, The one thing I know for sure is its amazing and addictive . when you see video on your own big screen you dont want to watch it on anything else.

Jeff i will take anything. I stopped this moment and thinking...Its going to be what a month for the moone hdmi board for this to be available? Will I get the best out of this g70..or should i trade up and get a g90? (before i sink any cash into this?) If i hire someone to set up? then get the card? then come back and reset up? Or should someone like Curt selling a good 9" sony tube crt and some cash and shipping charges..have something already done? which way do I go? please tell me what you guys think..really need the help and will react on it .

There are a lot of factors involved, money not being the least of them. This can be an expensive "hobby" if that is how you percieve this. So I wouldnt be suprised if you dont get a lot of advice on the "right" way to go. Its kinda personal.
My only advice would be go slow, see how much of your own time and money you can afford to put into this. Look at some of the members HT and use your best judgement. Some REALLY nice set ups out there, how far you wanna go is the only question. In any case, I dont think you would unhappy either way.
If you want the set up files I have send me your email address and I'll send them right over.
ENJOY !

The G70 will oook amazing at 720P and easily beat your old LCD's and DLP's. The G90 will take it up another notch to 1080P but realistically IMHO the improvement is no more than 20% and probably closer to 10% in sharpness and light output (raging argument starts now LOL).
So like audio where doubling the money only bumps up the performance a little bit it's up to you to decide what kind of $$ value those improvements are worth.

The first thing you want to know is tube condition - take off the lenses
and take a pic of each tube face and post it - then we might be able to give
some reasonable guidance. Also tube hours are important - that's in a menu,
somewhere.
