Put it in a box....
Support the corners with a bunch of layers of cardboard and tape. This is so they can't cut through the boxing and end up making big holes.
Wrap the switcher in loose card board pieces. This provides some scratch protection in case something makes it through. Then large bubble wrap, 2 layers.
Put it in a box, tape up the box, all sides. Wrap that box in bubble wrap. Put it in another box, double walled ( custom make this ). Build a box inside a box.
Completely co-coon the box in packing tape.
If you want it cheap send it surface, it can take months. If you want it fast get it Air.$$ more expensive.

Bubble wrap it cover the lenses with something solid and get BAx Global/Shenker to pick it up I have had them deliver two pjs for me from the U.S to the U.K with good results. Get some quotes you can get it shipped as well which may be cheaper.

USPS is the best way to go. It doesn't have the size restrictions as Australia does, so what I'd do is triple bubble wrap it on all sides in a good cardboard box. Additional cardboard reinforcements are recommended as suggested above.
A guesstimate would be $125-150 to ship due to the size and weight, at least that's what it would be from Wa. state.
