Back to CRT everything. Mr. Green

A recent failure of my shop plasma which I use for a PC monitor and regular tv and the fact that it would cost me well over a hundred bucks to fix it and then if I miss 1 thing it will destroy the boards I replaced has helped to to consider the change back.

I use to be able to repair a CRT monitor or tv for a few bucks and it would last for years. Plasmas and LCDs, forget it. Only on rare occasions is the repair low cost.

So, A CRT monitor goes back on my bench and a CRT tv in the shop for regular viewing. When my other plasma goes out and if it's an expensive repair then a CRT RP tv will go in its place.

Maybe I'll have a few smaller LCDs in other rooms as the cost to fix is generally less but no more plasmas. Or at least none that would require higher dollar repairs and when they go out and the repair is high they will get parted out.

Such as this current plasma. It will be parted out this week.

Soooooooo....

DEATH TO DIGITAL!!!!!!!!

RETURN ANALOG......... Very Happy

Your loss. I have totally switched to digital (I am lying). I think digital flat panels are superior to CRT (still lying). I would never switch back to CRT.(just did). I think you are crazy (like a fox). Mr. Green

In all seriousness, I don't have a pj set up right now and my main tv is a Sony Wega 34" widescreen. On SD material, it is superior to any flat panel. Heck the motion resolution is probably equal on SD material to HD material on a flat panel.

How bog was this shop plasma? Replacing it with a CRT monitor of equal size will probably be a challenge.

LOL, funny thread. Still have a 32" 1080i HD Shamsung CRT in my living room. I've never even fed it HD material but standard DVD 480P through component looks amazing. I know it will last another 10 years too

Still all CRT here too...I have 1 flat panel computer monitor and of course my notebook is flat panel...A CRT in a laptop is just too bulky.

I'm waiting for the 4600HD to crap out so I can kick it to the curb along with all it's brothers and sisters and support parts.
Looking forward to the day when the 65 inch LED flatscreen makes it to the wall of my theater with nothing but one HDMI cable to feed it. Twisted Evil Wink

No flat panels here. For SD programming I use a Sony 32XBR100 squared (best SD picture ever) and a 34XBR960 for HD. Two CRT tv's in the living room certainly raises a few eyebrows, but who cares. SD looks crap on a HDTV even if its a CRT.

Cool so I'm not the only one with multiple TV's in the living room.

I still have a Princeton AF3.0HD in my living room. It seldom gets turned on anymore, but I just can't part with it (even though it's huge and utilitarian). When I have people over I put on Planet Earth and just let it run. Lots of raised eyebrows and questions ensue.
