Tinman described the swapping of system and video cages, focus and deflection boards in the 10PG with PGplus parts.
http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=93145#93145
So far I have only the 10PG. Will be looking out for parts and document the transformation in the thread after return from holiday. Part offers (shipped to Germany) and friendly advice is appreciated.

Cheers
Hans

thanks Kai, PWC-3709 (A) on both machines. Could this be the part number?

Did a quick set up with a green tube only, Silicone on both ring sets was broken and raster position and astig not correct. Will have to look up again how to correctly set astig. Blops are round and centered bit focus is not yet on PGxtra level. Confused

Hello!
The real part number of the def board is like 72137091 or ...94 (in Plus) or ...96 (in extra) plus the ink-stamp number. By the look of it yours is ending with ..91 which is the plain PG def board

Oh, and why don't you jump in to an "xtra" mod? That plus 25MHz video bandwidth would well worth the effort on this machine.

Searching for numbers with a 9* endinding I found DEF PWB 72137093. The ink stamp is IN5-246AJ.

@gjaky Tell me more about this xtra mod. All I read is that it cant be done.

Well I don't know the xtra mod in detail, just tought that the maniboards colud be swapped for those too, probably the neckboard is not pin to pin compatible, but if the socket is the same I am sure it can be done... I heard someone to put a red plain pg tube in to pg xtra Smile Otherwise the pg xtra differs in everything from it's predecessors, so a pg xtra conversion should start with buying a whole 9pg xtra with shot tubes

I have that!

Still I don't think it will work. There are several honorable people who wrote about 10PG improvement in detail and why xtra and xg technology is not applicable. So if you were just speculting then I do not dare to put my xtra boards into the PG - afraid of smokin boards.

here are 2 different PG9000 deflection boards I have on file:

Deflection Board DEF PWB PWC-3709(A) (1) 72137092 inkstamp: 1E7-43YAJ (2) 72137091 inkstamp: 1E7-132AG4

by the looks of it, the PG9000 uses deflection boards ending in 91, 92 or 93

You would have to look into the differences between 8508 tubes (used in PG6/9000 and PG6/9100) and P16 tubes (used in PG6/9200, XGxxx), and what requirements they have electrically.
If they are a very close match (which I doubt), it could possibly be done.

10PG tubes should be electrically compatible with 8508 tubes (no guarantee though, but I would be surprised if they weren't, since they are driven by basically the same electronics).

I hate to throw a monkey wrench into this because your intentions are good but.....I hope you have and know how to use a scope. A stock NEC is hard enough to work on without one. I think this is going to involve some tweaking Laughing

How close electrically are P16s and P19s?

I owned a 9pgxtra for years and now have a 10pg with GT17 lenses. I won't argue that the xtra did a better job of edge focus, and I can see the lack thereof in the 10pg's setup patterns. I don't find it noticable when watching a movie or TV program, though. The 10pg throws a much brighter, punchier picture (LC sure helps) and I find I don't notice the lack of edge focus I got with the 9pgxtra. As a point of comparison, the 9pgxtra had 9/10 tubes just before I took it down and the 10pg has 10/10's. I used the same screen size, sources and the same video processing chain.

I read through Tinman's threads on coverting his 10pg to a 10pgXtra, but decided to run mine awhile before making up my mind. I've left it alone and happy I did.

Can you post a link to those threads? I only know about the 10 PGplus mod.

I did a search to try to find the threads, but it appears that the PGplus mod was what I had remembered, not an xtra mod. User ID 'Deronmoped' was also part of the fray, as I recall.

I have sourced a PG6100 which is due to arrive on Friday morning. If any of you has some good advice what not to do when mixing it up with the 10PG, better speak now then next week.

Wish me luck

There are two things which are limiting the allowed highest horizontal frequency:
-there is a big black IC on DEF board (IC5001) in PG6xxx there are "FVA" and in PG9xxx there are "FVB" designated ics, swapping them will allow the deflection board to go >90kHz (these ics are all the same in all PG types, so it can be pulled out from a plain PG and you can put it in a PG xtra)
-the system board also limits the highest line frequency, I don't know if is there any mod for it yet, but you can trade with someone who has a spare PG9100 system board (like kschmidt2 Smile)

You mean it won't resolve (clear to me) or it won't sync due to limited electronic bandwidth? My previous 6PGxtra almost resolved 1080P.
http://www.curtpalme.com/forum/download.php?id=3986

Which boards are responsible for bandwidth anyway?

I'll typically use 720P (German HD TV) or 824P at 50 HZ form 21:9 Material. Don't get convenient swith from progressive scan (PC desktop) to 1080i running with Powerstrip/Vista/ATI CCC.
