|
|
So, I'm a total hobbiest who finds calibration to be pretty cool. I have a G90, Radiance, OPPO 3D system that I only have Craig Rounds touch. I know better than to think a one day course can replace all the hours out in the field that the PROs have put in. I also have a RS1 and a couple other T.V.s in the house. I thought it would be fun to take a course on calibrating so I purchased the CalMan v4 Enthusiast. At the time, interactive and the i1PRO were functional which was the main reason I went with CalMan so I could correct the primaries on the RS1. After taking the course over a year ago, I only used the software and equipment one time a couple months later. Last fall I found an incredible deal on a PR650. To show how rarely I use this software, I have not even done a calibration with the PR650. I had it immediately shipped to Nashou(on this forum) because he needed it more than I to use on his blend. Anyways, I received it back a couple of weeks ago so I decided to re-visit calibrating. Well, it turns out that on the CalMan website(completely different than the last time I was on there a year ago), you now need to purchase a spectro add on for the i1 and also purchase an interactive add on. However, most disappointing is that I found out that the spectro add on won't work for the PR650 and the only way that a true hobbiest would have the priveledge of using a nice meter like that is to fork over TWO GRAND for the commercial package!!!!!! That is insane to me!!! It would seem that the level of software should be priced based on what the buyer intended to use it for......not handcuff a hobbiest because he had a good meter.
So, is there any software out there that does interactive with the Radiance and doesn't cost MORE than I have into my PR650, laptop, and SONY G90 combined??? I mean are hobbiests like me who would never do this for a fee, just stuck holding a top notch meter with nothing to apply it to?? I would hate to think that I have to step down in the quality of my meter just so I can use ANYBODY's software!!!!!!!!!!!! Just simply doesn't make sense to me.

I haven't checked lately, but I think Chromapure only supports the high end meters in the pro software. You really only have three choices in software. Maybe the free one can handle the PR.

So you need ChromaPure Pro. Our price $999 but we do have a competitive upgrade available for anyone coming from Colorfacts, Progressive Labs, or CalMAN Pro to ChromaPure Professional. Price then is $599.
The ChromaPure Pro gives you complete access to absolutely everything, including the new 100% automatic ChromaPure Auto-Calibrate:
| Quote: | What is ChromaPure Auto-Calibrate?
This product allows anyone with little or no training in video technology to fully calibrate their display with almost no user input. Just setup a few simple options, click Auto-Calibrate, and then just go have a cup of coffee while the process completes, usually in 5-10 minutes.
This feature is an optional add-on to ChromaPure Standard, and it works in conjunction with a DVDO Duo or Lumagen Radiance external video processor. The processor acts as both a test pattern signal generator and calibration device. The Auto-Calibrate software controls the processor and the color analyzer to get the most out of your display. It will even generate a before and after calibration report for you.
The display's performance with respect to each of these parameters is presented in colourful charts and precise numerical values, both of which can update in real time as calibration adjustments are made.
ChromaPure is based on a before/after model. When the calibration is finished, the user can generate a printable report that depicts the performance of the display before and after calibration.
Auto-Calibrate will adjust the display's grayscale, gamma response, and color gamut to within industry standards.
Auto-Calibrate is available to ChromaPure Standard users at a $139 CurtPalme.com discounted price. It is free for ChromaPure Professional users. ChromaPure Professional users should contact us to enable this option. |

I just checked and HFCR doesn't support it. I thought Ken Whitcomb said PR had its own software. Anyway, you may not want to spend it, but it sounds like a pretty good deal on the Chromapure.
