Hi all,

I have a Barco 808g. it was fine until last night. We were playing the PS3, which was great looking. We turned it off. All of the sudden, the convergence was completely whacked when we turned the cable on.

Today, I did a quick reconvergence as much as was possible. Seemed ok. When it finally figured out what it's input was, it went back to being whacked again. It was on HD cable. 1080i... nothing in those settings changed. I have been using the glenlocked pattern, which is what I've always used.... I think... now I'm second guessing myself.

That's all I have for info. Thanks.

Unusual. Either the convergence output board is bad, or the CPU board (controller) us dumping the memory.

Try clearing all 'blocks' (memory locations), do a quick setup, and see if it holds. If not, I can test/repair the boards.

I don't think I've had a convergence board fail outright, so my guess would be more toward the controller board.

When it fails, does the test pattern twist up into strange patterns, or does everything reset to 50? If it resets to 50, I'd say the controller board. If convergence lines bend and twist, I'd say it's an output board.

Hi. Well, I can't seem to duplicate the problem this morning (I also forgot to clear any blocks... not sure if I have those set up or not). Looking back, it happened when swtiching from the ps3 to the cable. I had done the glenlock while the ps3 was on. Seemed ok then. Then I turned it off and the cable auto kicks in (they're all going through the hdfury2). This morning, it is not doing that, but it did it a couple of times as mentioned above in the past two days. Weird. I don't recall if everything rest to 50. It's almost as thought the green raster shifted down a couple of inches. But the red and blue lost their alignment as well. The pattern does not twist up. It looks like the focused version of the random access convergence. I can reconverge most of it using fine adjustment, but the center block for the red hit's it's max when trying to do that now. I can work on that with the lenses, raster, etc., but it's still a new problem. I will post back if it flips out again. Note: it is ceiling mounted, so no one has run into it, etc.
Thanks

So it was turned on tonight and the concergence had gone all whacky again. I had turned it off and on a few times yesterday and switched sources and so on and it seemed to be ok. But it turned on with the issue tonight.

This is kind of a long shot but try re-seating the plug in e proms on the controller and check for a pinched wire to the controller.

Hi again. It did it again. This time though, instead of just the general convergence shifting, all sorts of other things seemed to reset as well... the keystone, seagull, skew, bow, etc. I think things did reset to 50. In this round, the center was sort of ok, but the corners and sides were botched. I posted some pics. Not sure what to take a video of as it just happens when the machine is turned on. It still seems ok when I switch sources once it's up and running an re-converged.

Now check to see if all convergence values reset to 50. I don't think so. I'd suggest the controller board is bad.

It seems ok again today. would that still be indicative of a bad board... that it would just do it intermitently/randomly. makes sense, but just checking. If it's a bad controller board, what is my next course of action?

Did you check the wiring harness to the controller and re seat the two e proms on the controller board ?

Does your BG 808 have an IRIS one or two or neither ?

I've been looking through the 808 tips section. By controller board, so you mean the vertical board with the red and blue height controls and V shifts? I believe the my 808 does have an iris... the little camera on the front. A few months ago, I went through the issue that I had turned on the auto converge thing and it was driving me nuts. That was resloved though (by realizing that was what was going on and turning it off) and it hadn't been a problem for some time. I should also note that all the blanking and the green raster (along with the others) and the horizontal shift and any number of other things seems to go whacky or reset as well.

By presence of the camera and the menu showed in the pictures, you have a BG808s

You can try to change step by step the boards in the convergence tray.
Convergence output board first (R762519), then convergence driver (R762518 newer version).

I don't remember if in the Iris menu there's a automatic run option, with timer or other, check this.
