|
|
My plan is to run my digital projector at 115" wide on my new 2.35 screen. This means all 2.35 movies will fit it perfectly.
Problem is, all 1.84, 1.78, 4.3, etc will all be WAY too tall.
So I need a scaler that with the press of a button, will shrink the overall image size to allow 16:9 to fit within my height constraints. My plan is to use the Lumagen HDP or HDQ. But I'm wondering what other $200-$300 used street price scaler will let me do the same thing?
I need this for best possible blue-ray movie quality. 16:9 and similar sized movies or TV shows are considered "second class" and I'm willing to take a hit on video quality for them.
Thanks for any suggestions!

A used ABT (DVDO) VP50 might be attainable for that price. Keep in mind the Lumagen scaling algorithm is superior to ABT's in that it does not induce ringing. I noticed the ringing on my VP50, and it became even more apparent when I ran it side-by-side with my Lumagen Radiance (which uses the same scaling algorithm as the Vision series). Of course, you may or may not notice this at all, however with a larger image the likelihood does go up.
Additionally, the Vision VPs have 21-point parametric greyscale/gamma controls and primary CMS controls (R/G/B) for display calibration, whereas the VP50 does not. Unless you need a lot of inputs, I'd stick with the HDP/HDQ.
