I won an hd-leeza off ebay for the amazing price of $.99! Sellers says it is cosmetically and functionally sound. What can this processor do for me? I already have an lcd tv and bluray and hddvd player. Could it make my tv look better? I had bid on it so I could use it for the 3 runco 991s that I am trying to get up and running. Will someone care to educate me on this?

It's scaler/switcher. If you need a scaler/switcher then it's useful. Otherwise not.
It will take a standard def picture and upscale it to higher resolution such that scanlines aren't visible on a CRT based display like a CRT projector. Like any other scaler, it doesn't turn standard def into hi-def. Nothing can do that.
Manuals/brochures/spec sheets are here: http://www.curtpalme.com/VideoProcessors.shtm#KeyDigital
What it can do for you really depends on what you want out of it. To quote the brochure:
| Quote: | HD Leeza® is a full-featured digital video processor,
video switcher, and video integration box, all in one
elegant package. Its state-of-the-art digital video
processor is the best way to match lower-resolution
interlaced and progressive-scan video from a DVD
player, satellite TV receiver, Set Top Box, or VHS
tape player to higher-resolution displays. HD
Leeza® sizes your digital (and analog) video to precisely
match the native pixel resolution of any front- or rearprojection
display: Plasma, LCOS, DLP®, LCD, DILA,
and CRT. Now available with ISF® software and PIP |
If you already have HD sources and are feeding them directly into your 991 projector or your TV, I see no use for a scaler like this for you.
Not to sound condescending but normally someone looks up what something is and what it's used for before purchasing. Yes, only $0.99 (plus shipping I would imagine) but if you're not going to use it or need it that's wasted money. There's a reason it sold for $0.99. Nobody uses these things anymore now that HD sources exist with better scalers built in.

Nice catch, not agreeing with KAL, à scaler is always helpful. Different sources and all the exact same resolution to the projector.
@kal, why is curt advertising on lumagen?

But unless he has an older source that requires a scaler, it's of no use. But he he had an HDDVD and Blu-ray player, both of which have better scalers built in than the Leeza.
So unless he has an old source like a VCR or a DVD player with a scaler, I'd say a straight scaler is again not very useful. Even the cheapest sources today have scalers built in too.

I'm not sure I understand. CurtPalme.com does not advertise on Lumagen's website. CurtPalme.com does however help Lumagen sell scalers like the Radiance. We carry them at discounted prices. See: http://www.curtpalme.com/Radiance.shtm
Why does CurtPalme.com advertise Radiance scalers? Because they're the best scalers that exist (IMHO) and Lumagen's a wonderful company to work with.

I would still have to buy a moome or hdfury to use my hddvd and bluray on my pjs. I dont know how much the moome card is going for but $.99 sounds good to me! But i do have to ask if processors and scalers are pretty much obsolete then why are the still being sold with all the bells and whistles? They cost more than most tvs on the market now.

I didn't say video processors were obsolete. I said straight scalers (boxes that only scale and nothing else) are more or less obsolete.
Video processors with bells and whistles are being sold as they do considerably more than just scaling. Some of these bells & whistles are very useful in certain setups, for example, something like the Radiance has a completely adjustable CMS as well as parametric gamma, 3D adjustments, and so on.... it depends on what you need.
Both a video processor (which includes all kinds of bells and whistles in addition to a scaler) and just stand alone straight scaler boxes (boxes that do nothing but scale) are not uesless. They are useful in some situations. Depends on what you need. It's up to the purchaser to understand and decide what they need and get what they require based on their needs and budget.
I agree that $0.99 is a great price, but again, all I'm saying is that $0.99 isn't deal until you actually need the product. Someone could offer me a truckload of Donkey food for 1/100th of the regular price but unless I have a Donkey, it's not a 'deal'.

No just recycle and sell the manure. More people would be interested in that product. No donkey required.

I thought the leeza also does custom resolution and other picture adjust like gamma, contrast brightness. If you don't like it, I will buy it for 99 cent!

Make sure the unit has a remote, it's useless without it, but the codes are available for the pronto and the harmony

Can I feed it a digital signal via dvi and then upscale to 1080i and send it to my pj through rgb input?

Not if the source is HDCP-encrypted... In that case, the HD Leeza will disable the analog outputs. You'd need an HDCP stripper in the middle. Otherwise? Yes, you could.
