Hi Everyone,

I'm having an issue with my Electrohome ECP4100 which I'm finally hoping to fix. I managed to pick up the unit with brand new tubes in it, but it refuses to power up correctly. When you turn it on you can hear the tubes just begin to get power and then it cuts out. The unit stays on with the tubes very dim. I'm wondering if it is the HVPS or LVPS. The guy I got it from said it was the LVPS, but I want to confirm before I try to find one.

PS. If anyone knows which power supply is causing the problem, and would be willing to sell me one let me know.

Thanks!

Is internal and external video equally dim?

Is contrast and brightness at max?

yes, the tubes are equally as dim when I look at them and at the surface they are projecting on. I can't access the menu on the projector because it does seem to turn on all the way so I'll have to assume the projector has the brightness at a "normal" setting. It does indicate an error on the back of the unit. If I remember correctly the 5v light doesn't come on. I'll have to double check though.

Pretty much the high pitch noise associated with 480i happens for a second then the projector clicks and the noise stops. The error light comes on when this happens.

Anyhow, I do have an older Keltron made HVPS for ECP, but I don't know if it is working or not. I can send it to you for the cost of shipping if you are interested, I am in europe..

The 3100 manual (close enough) indicates the bias module has a beam limiter that can reduce contrast if the voltage from the video boards is too high -- it does a comparison to 4V, but I don't know where the 4V comes from. Anyway, kind of sounds like this is how it is behaving. So, perhaps the LVPS is malfunctioning (or correctly sensing) such that the bias module is then turning down the contrast?

I'm a total novice, but seems to me like the HVPS isn't to blame (presume the G2 is set sufficiently high) and that the LVPS is the more likely culprit. I'd email Curt or post to buy/sell for a LVPS...it is a remove and replace part and is not serviceable.

Matt
