Oh boy the learning curve is getting steep. this new hobby of mine is getting more costly all the time. Without revealing how dumb I really am, I'm now in need of a new green C-element for my 9500lc . I mean clear C-element based on my understanding that colored C's are no longer made. And now to the point of this post. I spent 30yrs behind the camera in the motion picture industry. There were a couple of guys who did custom filters that went in front of the lens. different colors, graduations and such. Most of the filters were glass some were plastic. not real sure of the technic, weather they dipped them or air brushed, only know we were able to shoot through them. If there were a demand, I could use one green and maybe a red, could this be something of interest? lots of talk of tinting coolant and its conclusions. any thoughts?

Hello
Green c elements are readily available, I have some here to sell. It is tinted red that is no longer offered. Tinting the glycol does not work with c elements as the space between c element and tube face varies across the tube face.

I would be particularly curious about tinting CElements with coatings. The red CElements that are available are actually not the correct color to make Rec709, they still need to make the color more blue. If we had a way to take a clear and make it a correct red, or take a color filtered red and make it better I would be quite happy 
If you feel like finding info on this I am all ears.

Well, because this is all new to me, I'll need to do some following up with these gents, You refer to "rec709" is that a reading of some sort? I was an operator, a dolly grip to be exact, so I was not directly involved in color correction. but I do remember back in the day, when it truly was a "film" industry, film stock was very sensitive to color temperature. Every Gaffer had a color meter. and they would put different filters in front of the lens to correct the light entering the camera. Now that the "industry" is going digital, Color correction is somewhat of a dying art! So, my guess would be that if we could come up with a specific color, and use a clear "C" and start from there, I could inquire over at Panavision to see if they still have there filters lab and what method they used to determine the color correction.

looks like a bear to do based on some quick reading and also you would need to know the exact type of polycarbonate used. Something tells me 3M is not going to disclose that.

wow, that pattent came through only 5 years ago and it's already useless for all practical purposes regarding commercial sales. Who's making the green and clear ones for VDC?

It's hard to believe VDC could not supply (for public sale) tinted Red and Green c elements at a profit ?
