This is what I have

NEC XG 1350 AC with updated V drive board from Curt
New set of tubes
LC chambers and all hardware including front cover to convert to an LC
Moome 1.3 input card
Lumagen HDP/DVI to get 1080p Image

Let's assume the 1350 is set up to 90% of it's capability. What kind of digital projector would match the the XG performance?

Match it in what? Black levels, nothing. Other features? Lots.

Not just black level but overall picture quality. I'm really debating on a plug and play. I'd want to find something similar to what I have. The wife's tired of the constant tweaking of my setup. Just looking for any recommendations.

What quality do you value in a picture?

Don't take this the wrong way but if properly setup you shouldn't need to tweak.

But I know where you are coming from. I used to tweak all the time. Every time something wasn't perfect.

Now, if it isn't obvious watching a movie it's not worth worrying about IMO

If you're tweaking during a movie, or you're restarting the movie about 5 times, then yep, that's not the way to please the better half. You tweak in the downtime, when you're NOT watching it.

Actually, she has been pretty good with the overall cost of my love affair with crt's.
And no it's not in her kitchen, it's in my cave.

I haven't researched actively, but what does 1080p digital in anything tolerable cost...$4000? You might get a nice G90 for less! Of course, if you aren't picky, I think the El Cheapo HT digitals (1920x1080) are down to $1500. Maybe you buy something a bit up from the cheapo and mount it to the bottom of the CRT with an HDMI switch at the PJs...use whichever is easiest. In addition, that PJ could be used for other activities -- BBQs outside, etc. I have a $400 DLP that will handle 800x600 over a USB wireless video adapter that is for use outside in the summer.

You shouldnt need to ever tweak it often, ive had my NEC on the ceiling for about 8 months and in that time after first set up, i redid it again once, and if it wasnt for the system board failing with all my settings, i still wouldnt have touched it in about 6 months, it was about 3-4 weeks ago the system board took a dive, and up til then, convergence was still spot on where i left it.

Any of the new Epson 1080p LCD's will give you a superb image with the best in scene contrast you've ever seen. Add a neutral filter to cut the black even further, to the point where you can't tell the difference between it and a crt projector in all but absolute black. They have a virtually infinite placement capability because of their horizontal/vertical lens shift options as well, and are virtually silent.

DO NOT simply plop it on the desk and use it as is then complain about how it doesn't look good. It will need to be carefully set up and tweaked, much like your NEC, just not constantly maintained.

Buy or borrow a colorimeter so you can confirm the greyscale too, it will make a difference, read about what others are doing to achieve the best setup and experiment A LOT till you find what works best in your environment.

I've seen a couple of these in person, in DIRECT comparison with a well set up G90, and they are very, very, very good looking projectors, you won't be disappointed.

I was watching some movies this week. When the movie fades to black. It gets pitch black in my cave. How will a digital do fade to black? Would I be better off having my system professionally calibrated?
