Trying to figure out what would be causing my focus issues. Had a tech (that has worked on Barco's for about 20 years) out working on my pj today with a disappointing end today. We could not find a balance between the center being focused and the left and right. He even disconnected the electro-magnetic focus to make sure it wasn't doing something strange. This was with no lens installed, for the purpose of eliminating the lens and scheimpflug as problems.
This was a Seos machine originally. Does anyone know of a setting or jumpers that would cause this issue?
We could either get the center with great sharpness or it would be the left & right with great sharpness but not both at the same time, this was without moving anything physically, 4-pole or coils etc, just with focus menus?
He did all of the normal setup routines, beam spot etc.
Spent $300 with no solution today.
Please any help would be appreciated!!

did you have good focus before? i remember you have a 1209 barco but dont know if its this machine you are talking about.
if you had good focus before then probably the focus board or a focus waveform generator is kaputt.
or your hv power supply isnt providing the right voltage.
is it on 3 tubes or just on 1 tube?

you should get fairly good focus on the sides even without setting scheimpfug and astig up right.

im no expert of course but those are the things i would look at.

It is on all three tubes. Yes it is the same machine. I have never had good focus everywhere.

What type lenses are you using and what screen size ?

As I remember Seos sometimes used unusual CRT spacers inside the LC housing.

Did he first set dynamic astic to mid position from service menu?

Then center point focusing to 57 and find best spot for focus yoke from tubes neck. page 13
http://www.curtpalme.com/docs/BarcoGraphics808s_CRTReplacementProcedure.pdf

If this doesn't help I guess there is problem in some board.

Also check that there is jumper installed on vertical deflection sub board. Not sure if there is also other ones in seos units.

Lens and screen size do not matter if it is not focused on the face of the tube. Jumper is installed.

Thanks I wasn't quite sure on that point. Do you have any spare boards you could swap in ?

Also do all the board #s match ?

Spares, No I do not. We were wondering if anyone would know of any changes that Seos might have done to cause this or not?

We just can not see why they would, bottom line it has to be in focus on the face of the tube.
I will put together a list of board number tonight.

To quote crteaman....

Yeah..sure...Bloody Seos unit's!!!!

Mini- rant over...

Seos did all kinds of screwy things...I had some Seos 808 units here..the Convergence..and focus and geomtery were all rendered useless...and could only be controlled by Seos PC control....there was all sorts of add on board's in the Convergence tray..and wires running every which way..even to the controller module....

On a normal Barco 1209s is the amount of the Middle focus, far as the visual effect of what you see on the screen (moving in and out of focus, not the numbers 1-99) the same in all of the other zones? left & right & top & bottom?

Thanks
Steve

Most of the SEOS issues are most likely due to the mounting of the tubes in the housings, or... the C element could have the wrong curvature, I had a customer in Thailand email me recently Seems that Barco sent him new tubes with the wrong C elements installed.. they were for really curved screens, and wouldn't work with stock flat screen lenses.

the thing here is to look into the lenses and see if the image is focused on the face of the tubes. If so, then you have an optical issue, and no amount of electronic focus adjustment will cure that.

Does anyone have the answer to my last question? I bought the C elements and installed them.

Sorry but I cannot understand what you are asking exactly....

Tom
I'm talking about the amount of adjustment 1-99 in relationship to what you actually see on the screen going in and out of focus. If you understand what I mean now, then how does it compare to the other zones? Are the other zones in their ability to adjust, a lot smaller or should they be the same. Mine has very little adjustment in the other zones (L,R,T & Bottom) again what I'm seeing on the screen (going in and out of focus). Middle has a lot of adjustment but not the others.

The mechanical adjustments should get you all of the way towards overall optical focus. The electronic focus is for focusing the image on the tube face. Results may vary....

What lenses are you using and why did you replace the c elements ?

I still have the same issues as before. I purchased a focus board from Curt but there was no change. Would really like to solve this. I will try again. My question is this: I have a lot of adjustment in the center electronic focus but have almost none in the other zones(left, right, top & bottom) is this typical or should I have the same amount of adjustment in the other zones as the center?

The focus may be interpolated. Once the course adjustment is done in the center, the edges just don't need to be adjusted as much.

Just a thought.

That is normal, having far less focus control at the edges. It's the one thing I don't like about the BArcos, some more visible range would have been good.

Turn the contrast to 100 so you can see the changes the best.
