|
|
Ok, I think I know the answer but want to make sure before I hook everything up. I have a new 7.1 receiver but will only be using 5.1 speakers. Do I use the "surround right" and "surround left" or the "surround back right" and surround back left" for the rear speakers. I believe it is the "back"
Thanks
Dan

You know Dan, you may want to check your manual on that receiver. On some, the surround back is a mono signal just split. Not a true right and left surround. I would choose a true right and left.

use the surround right and surround left. Mac is right in that back left and back right are usually mono on soundtracks and thus implemented like that in receivers/processors.

Hey, only took me 8 years to learn how the headphones worked. I'm getting better.

I did find online where to use the normal surround and not the "backs" I got a Pioneer VSX-920. It was on sale at Best Buy for $209 plus I had a gift certificate to use. It seems to do pretty well. I don't need mega-power in my setup, 110 watts a channel is plenty.

Yes you use the standard surrounds, not the backs.
You also need to make sure that you set up the receiver so that the backs are turned OFF (usually 'NO' or whatnot), so that everything is handled in 5.1 properly. SMALL is almost always the proper setting for all your speakers if you have any kind of reasonable subwoofer, as well.
