Hey Guys,

I picked this receiver up this morning, found it on Craigslist. It all works but the controls are scratchy and one of the lamps on the panel is blown out (the one for the tuning signal strength). Other than that it is in excellent cosmetic condition and sounds good (to my non audiophile ear).

I paid $10 for it

I can take some pictures and post them later if anyone wants to see it.

Erik

Cool!! Get some Radio Shack Tuner control cleaner and spray it in the volume control and other controls.

Pics would be cool.

Hey Guys,

I cleaned the controls with some tuner cleaner and it is working much better now, the only control that is at all touchy is the balance control but I'm sure it will correct itself with a little use.

I also took the opportunity when having it opened up to replace the failed lamp behind the signal meter. This is where I could use a little advice, these lamps look like fuses, possibly they are fuses? Anyway, the one I removed is 6.3V .25A and has a blue tint on the glass, the one I replaced it with was pulled from a junked Pioneer receiver and has the same specs but clear glass. It works just fine but the color is slightly off. Does anyone know where I can order the correct lamp? I would like to get a few so I have some spares if other ones blow out.

Thanks,

Erik

Use Caig contact cleaner, it works way better than the Radio Shack stuff. About $18-20 for a can though.

AS for the lights, they are indeed called 'fuselights' and are 6, 8 or 12 volts. Hellishly expensive on eBay for some reason, the cheapest place I've found is right in my backyard at Main Electronics. THey only come in clear, the tinting was done by Rotel. You can play with gel sheets cut into tiny pieces, but I'd just change all of them to clear ones, you won't find the tinted ones anywhere.

Thanks for the info Curt.

I'll grab a can of Caig and give it a try!

Too bad the tinted fuselights aren't available, the clear ones work fine but the color isn't nearly as nice as the blue ones. I think for right now I'll leave it as is and change them all to clear when/if another light blows out.

Thanks,

Erik
