I've looked at several search results and I can't even derive what they are. So, what are lugs an lcps's?

Sign me,
old newbie

Thanks,
David

Different 9" tube types. I believe the LUG is superior.

Superior depends on what your looking for in over all image.

LCPs are said to be brighter and LUGs Sharper but not as bright. I was recently given some specs on both and
the graphs show a slight increase in brightness of the LCP's due to not being as sharp and therefore lighting up
surrounding phosphor of the spot size test. So it depends on what your looking for.
I also heard but have not confirmed LUGs do not track Greyscale as well as LCPS in a stock PJ.
Adding CMS makes that mute as nowadays its easy to find a suitable CMS for little money.

So it depends on if you want sharp or bright image results.

I am sure someone will add more or correct me if I am wrong.

In addition to the stuff noted above LUGs have an additional grid that I believe is only used in G90s and Barco 909s. There are other high resolution P19s and PT22s that don't have this extra grid but which are still sharper than the LCPs. My Runco 1100 came with these but the number escapes me at the moment. I also believe green lugs have the P43 quick decay phosphor. I cannot speak to 9" sets since I have only had the high res version but having compared both low hour 180DVBs and small spot size (but without the extra grid) P16LNPs in my 8" Barco Data 808s, I would take the smaller spot size everyday of the week.

So a "lug" and a "lcps" are brand names for tubes?

No, just typs of tubes. It is more like a part number.

LPB03 is a high resolution Barco pinout 9" tube.

What makes a tube "high resolution?" My tubes were said to be hi-rez by VDC but I thought -all- 9 inch tubes were hi-rez.

Thanks.

I think its the aperture of the beam. My G90 came with a green LQF tube, which was 9" but has a spot much bigger than a LCP or LUG. Took me a long time to finger out that was why I couldn't focus it in for 1080p very well. When I replaced the LQF with a LUG it was shocking how much easier it was to get sharp.

LQF used in G90 is a hi res tube, and should have very similar
results as a LUG (Barco version) - Odd to hear that you found
a difference between them...not arguing with your results, just
an odd data point, based on observation of multiple G90's over
the years.
