|
|
I have been watching my BG 801s a lot more lately and while its never had a HV shutdown, every once in a while (maybe once per hour at most) there is a small "tick" noise (I am thinking a small HV arc) and associated with that noise is a flicker of the color in the over all picture (for a split second the pic has more of a blue tint). Its definitely not a large enough arc to cause HV shutdown, nor is it loud enough to hear except when sitting right near the PJ.
My main question is if this is a HV issue, do I need to replace my HV leads or is there a way to insulate them (I know electrical tape would NOT do it, its only rated usually for like 4-600volts)? Also is there a way to pinpoint WHICH lead is arcing, since I have never SEEN an actual arc, nor do I see any damage to any of the leads?
Thanks

No, hte HV leads are fine if it's only a 'tic'. A 34KV HV arc would be a BANG!
You have arcing of a much lower voltage. Suspects would be a CRT socket or the focus block, maybe the HV quadrupler (but probably not the quad).
I'm blowing out all Barco 800/801 parts dirt cheap as per my next mailout on Monday, so it shoudl cost you next to nothing to repair this.

Talk about timing, I will wait for the pricing on your next mailing

My 8500 just started doing something similar. A tic, no pic, and then the pic expands back slowly.

In the case of the 8500, you most likely have an HV overload, or you could have a problem in the HVPS. LEt me know if you want to send me the HVPS for testing here.

I might need more parts now, last night I was watching a movie and all of a sudden the convergence looked off to me, upon further investigation the top and bottom of the picture on the green tube have bowed in, and I have lost ALL bow control in the menus, I am not sure which parts controls this, if this is convergence board failure or magnetics, or what, I am new to CRT projectors, but completely comfortable with a soldering iron (I have recapped PC motherboards in the past, its not fun, but its cheaper than a new motherboard).

On a side note, while my BG801 is a baby hour wise and a "9" on the tubes, it is sure showing its age with problems and failures, but unlike a LCD its actually worth fixing
