The thing about CRT projectors is true though. People do still email and call asking if I want to buy a Sony 1031 because 'it only has about 50 hours on it'.
Really? How do you know that, it has no hour meter on it and is 22 years old.
'Oh, well the guy that sold it to me told me that it was hardly used.

Sounds like a craigslist add I responded to for snow tires:
"Used one season" I get there, they are from 2004 ( tires dry out after 5 years and start to crack ) and then the guy says "I had them on my van for 6 years." 
He was asking $400 firm with 65-70% tread and dry cracks. He thought it was funny when I offered him $150

Totally off topic, but on topic for the hyjak... I just replaced the tires on my 2001 Hyundai Santa fe' (currently only has 105,000 kms - 67,000 miles-ish on it). I replaced them with the exact same tires after an incident from when we lived in Edmonton (4 years ago) and I experienced the phenomenon known as "freezing rain" the first time (1/8" of clear ice over everything after 45 minutes at the grocery store). Everyone else was slipping and sliding around and I barely noticed the ice. Obviously the AWD played it's part, but the tires make a huge difference as well. Anyways, since it's been on the road 10 year (original tires) I noticed that over time they were getting worse and worse. For example doing 20KPH (15 miles per hour roughly) around a corner and the tires would squeal.
We went in to the local Costco a couple months ago after waiting for 3 weeks for my special order tires. They said about an hour. About 15 minutes in they called me and asked if there was any particular reason I was replacing the tires. Turns out that after 100,000+ kms there was still 65% of the tread left on them. I told the guy they just weren't the same as they used to be. He sounded unsure, but replaced them anyways.
Yeah, glad I did. Grabs the road like it used to. I can't believe I let them go this long, but I did wait because they still had loads of tread left. Moral of the story, replace your tires every 5-7 years, because even with tread left, they really do degrade.

Nothing like the crap I stirred on the >$20K forum when I came out and told one of the members that he had no business becoming a FATHER at 58. I'm actually surprised I wasn't banned for a bit..
Turns out the guy was pretty cool, but the way he posted, it sounded like he was cranking out twins, then stuffing them in daycare so he and his wife could continue their lives. I called him out, and the other members went nuts. We exchanged a couple of PMs, and I apologized.

Not sure if that is the moral of your story, as that has been recommended for years by places like the Tire Rack. It is usually tire shops with employees that don't know any better that would say your tires are fine.
I am not sure why you decided to get the same make and model of tires. Unless that model has had some updating, there are some very good new model tires out there.

If you want a great upgrade, do new model tires, hi(er) performance shocks/struts and a wheel alignment. Makes it a whole new car/truck

Definitely.
I'm doing new shocks and struts all around next spring on my wife's car, then I'll decide if I'm going to keep it much longer. Gonna cost a frickin' arm and a leg, though! It ain't cheap to do all that even if you do it yourself.

Well, the people that work in tire centres near you must be over 18 years old then. Nobody working in a tire store in this city seems to be over 20, except the owner/ manager and they are always too busy on the phone to talk to customers. I personally had no idea tires degraded like that. I was actually amazed I had 100,000kms on it and there was still 65% tread left. I tend to drive that thing like it's stolen...
The tires that came on it are VERY nice tires. They are always rated highly and on tire forums I noticed most Santa Fe owners did the same.

No, I said most shop employees don't know about tire life span. I think it is one of those things that probably isn't common knowledge, but it is well known.
I would be curious what tire you are running. If I lived in the Arctic Circle, then I would be running with General Altimax Arctics.
