Not sure if this is really HTPC related, but that's what I want to use to play it.

I'm having some people over tomorrow to check out the setup. Can you think of some movie scenes that make for good demo material?

A few I can think of off the top of my head;

1. The opening to Revenge of the Sith. I love the big star cruisers and the huge battles. It has good LFE and Surround effects in just a few minutes of time.

2. The scene in Cars where Wingo and his crew push Mack around. I love how the music sounds and the night time neon scene!

Any other suggestions would be appreciated!

The opening scene in Cars is very good too. Where the Theater goes from pitch black very bright flashes. The shot of Lightning McQueen's wheels look great.

Even in 2D the Flying "Dog Fight" scene in Avatar are great.

From Star Trek (2009) the scene that starts with Kirk & Sulu are parachute jumping onto the drill platform is awesome. Warning...If you play that scene it's likely your guests will stay for the rest of the picture.

There are some threads around here and at AVS on this exact subject, but I couldn't find any here. Here are a couple of my favorites:

Cars
Intro scene and title sequence. Full blackout can't-see-your-hand-in-front-of-your-face, eye-popping color and Sheryl Crow title track.

Ratatouille
Intro scene and title sequence. Awesome color and detail, excellent sound dynamics.

Casino Royale
Intro scene and title sequence. Cool grainy black & white, incredible sound dynamics in fight scene, and one of the coolest motion graphics title sequences set to an excellent Chris Cornell (from Soundgarden) title track. Leads into a great chase sequence that concludes in an explosion. Probably takes 20 minutes, but it is AWESOME.

300
Scenes 1 and 2 (Child, Wild). Awesome dark images and INCREDIBLE sound.

Those are a couple of my favorites.

I've never seen Casino Royale but I've heard it's pretty good. I forgot about the scenes in 300 and the opening of Cars too.

The Star Trek jump scene, another excellent choice!

another one I just remembered is the Balrog scene in Lord of the rings. Oh man, the first well setup crt projector I saw was at a friends house. Marquee 8500 that he bought from Curt. I was blown away by the blacks and fire, just amazing.

When Remy and Emile get blow off off the roof by the lighting, the sound scares the sh*t out of you. Every time I watch that I jump!

If anyone is into gore the first few minutes of Zombieland is great, very very gory, but FUN. The kid (Jesse Eisenberg) in that flix cracks me up...It will be interesting to see him play Mark Zuckerberg in The Socal Network.
