Hello,

I have a problem with my M8500. Sometimes the picture disappears with h-fail light on and reappears after one or two seconds, too large and defocused. It then shrinks to the correct size and focus. Sometimes it happened only one time, sometimes a few times behind one another. Another time I can watch a whole movie without any problems. It seems to appear only with horizontal scan frequency of 60kHz and above. I did never have a problem with 720p@50/60/72 or 1080i@(up to)96 which are less than 60kHz horizontal. All caps on the HDM are changed with Panasonic FC series. BTW it is a 2003-08 HDM and I tried a 2003-07 with the same problem. Can anybody help me please? Thanks a lot.

Try to clean the chips on the CLM, especially U7 on the Deflection processor board. If it still persists then try to find another HVPS to test.

To cleaning the chips I have to get a removal tool first. I'm glad that I have a complete set of spare boards and power supplies, so I'll try to swap the HVPS (do you really think it could cause by the HVPS?).

Hello

It could be arcing in a tube or from the anode wiring (pink cable going to each tube bell.

Oh, I don't hope that but I'll check this as soon as I am at home. But why do the failure appears only with higher frequencies?

I'm going to clean the chips and if that doesn't work I'll swap the HVPS.

I got the removal tool and cleaned all socketed chips. The failure seems to has gone. Thanks a lot to all who helped me.
