|
|
I was on the Bell website the other day and noticed they were advertising a “Home connect kit” to enable a 92** PVR to connect to the internet via the electrical wiring in the home. http://www.bell.ca/shopping/PrsShpTv_Dth_Accessories.page.page
The original intent is to allow programming a PVR via the internet if you are away and had forgotten to set up a recording. Has anyone used this and if so could it be used to connect a PS3 to a modem rather than using a wireless connection or hard-wiring?
The local Bell dealer has no idea neither do the Csr’s at Bell so any info would be appreciated.

Looks like a powerline ethernet adapter. Basically the same thing as hard wiring, should work fine for a playstation.
49.99 looks cheap.

Thanks for the replies gentlemen, I had no idea this kind of product existed (since 2004 according to Wiki), I have to get out more often or at least read more. Yes at $49.99 it is cheap compared to others that I googled.
AR unfortunately there is no Radio Shack here in the boonies just a “Scource” and they don’t have anything on their website as far as I can see. I did find this http://www.directcanada.com/products/?sku=11280NW1102&vpn=DHP-303&manufacture=D-LINK at an online site.
To my uneducated eye it seems just the ticket, I just want to watch downloaded HD content from my PC without the annoying staggering that I get with a weak wireless signal. If nobody posts any comments saying that this is no good then I will give it a try.
Thanks again
Colin

Oh forgot to add. Mine didn't work through a power bar. Seems the filtering in the powerbar stopped the signal.

Hey, that "Home Connect Kit" doodad has the SlingBox logo on it...
Looks like it was probably to get SlingBoxes hooked up at the TV location, and Bell is just reselling it for their own DVR's.

Also forgot to add, I use mine on my HTPC and watch streaming content all the time.
Let us know how it goes.

Got the new unit Saturday (pretty fast shipping) install was easy; however there are a couple of things. First I can only select either wired or wireless connection for the PS3 so now I cannot access the wireless laptop, not a big deal.
There are still one or two MP4 files that have stuttering on the PS3, unless transcoded, but play fine on the PC. As well FLV files won’t play at all but will on the PC, this has always been the case. I’m guessing that the problem is in the PS3 not liking that format but not sure about the problem with the MP4.
Anyway thanks for the help, I’ll have to do some more research on the MP4 issue.
