I'm curious. Why did Dwin enter the CRT market with a EM focus projector (HD-500) and then move onto a ES focus projector (HD-700).
It kind of sounds like they were going backwards. Also the 500 was totally quiet with no fans and the 700 although pretty quiet, is not totally quiet as it has at least one fan.
In the back of my head, I've always had the itch to see if I could get the electronics of the HD-500 to drive a set of 9" EM tubes. Sort of like in a split pack configuration.

my guess is to keep the projector small and to cut down on production costs as I believe ES magnetics and circuts are probably cheaper. The newer 7-8" ES tubes are really bright and quite sharp. I have a barco 708 and still I am amazed how close it is to a 8" EM projector in many ways.
