I just picked up a minty vidikron vision one for $360 Cool . Took off the lenses and the tubes look perfect, but the set won't power on. The lvps light on the back lights up when you try to turn it on, but the seller had pictures of it working before removal. Did the lvps die during transit of old age( it's a 1995 model) or could there be other issues?

Was this one from west Hollywood?

Are you holding the power button down for about 3 seconds?

No, this one was from norcal came out of a mansion that was being torn down for another mansion. I did hold the power button down for 3 sec but the the red lvps diagnostic Light on the back comes on, and there is no sign that any glycol leaked from the tubes to damage the electronics

Look on the fron and see if any LED's are lit on the LVPS itself, you might need to take the from cover off to see them.

None of the lights on the lvps light up. Took the whole thing basically apart before I bought it because it wouldn't power up. It's very clean on the inside except the lvps area, mild dust in there

Yeah, you'll have to pull 4 connectors one at a time. Start first with the convergence connector, then each of the neck board connectors.

It's also a possility that vert module is defective, but first start wit the 4 connectors.

95 model has probably a lvps that needs to be modified for the filament voltage too.

funny thing, did an Hd package for a guy in FL and had the machine set-up and calibrated by CR engineering. Everything dials in perfectly and 2 weeks later the LVPS light comes on. So I have the guy pull all kinds of connectors and try this and that.
turns out the LVPS simply went bad, had nothing to do with any of the other cards in the machine. Surprised Usually the upper section of the power supply fails, but if it's a 95 machine then it should really have the P14 filament voltage checked as well.

Whatever the problem, I can repair the set or boards. I've also got late model LVPS for sale that have the filament mod done, and date from about 2000.

if it worked and now it doesn't, could mean something unseated itself. I would start with the low hanging fruit and check all connections and that the boards and cables are firmly seated.

I just tore down the powere supply and found that fuse 4 was blown, I thoroughly hecked bothe halves, but found no obviously damaged components or burnt traces. what is fuse 4 responsble for so i can go over the set again and make sure there is no other obvios poblem before I attempt to power up the set?

Replacing the fuse fixed it. it has 2 standby hours and 1400 crt hours. low standby because it was on a switched outlet controlled by a theater controller. It must have displayed a black screen most of the time because the tubes still look like 9's both with a full field 4:3 test pattern (it was set up for 16:9) and directly viewing the tube faces with a flashlight.

Any ideas on what would have caused the fuse to blow? The projector works fine, also checked the filament voltage, right on target but I'm going to do the mod anyway

Not sure but it could have just broke the fuse filament during trasport.
