|

Hi all,
I am very new to this forum so first things first hello to all.
I have just brought a Sony VPH-1271Q CRT projector off an auction site for $60.00 NZ. It does have a fault and according to the person I got it off powers up and the tubes are illuminated but the image is flickering/rolling and an 08 error code is displayed. Does anyone know what the error code means.
Regards
Rhys

the error codes can be found at the curtpalme homepage under FAQs, Tips, Manuals -> Sony 125x/127x -> Manuals / Downloads -> Sony 125x/127x Error Codes.

It's all on the site with a bit of hunting.
http://www.curtpalme.com/Sony125x_Layout1.shtm
V stop is vertical failure. USUALLY (but not always) that's a problem on the vertical board as shown above.
H = horizontal
V= vertical
HV = high voltage.
You will need to get up to speed on the various terms, but if you're not a tech, you'll need to find one in NZ (unlikely), or you'll need to find some spare parts (I've got stock of everything) to start swapping boards out of your set to narrow it down.
I'm assuming you're not an electronics tech?
You might also put up a new post asking for other CRT owners in NZ. THere's a few here, but I don't know if they have Sony 12XX sets.

Thanks Curt Palme
No your right I am not a tech and very new to all this. I will have to take it to someone who can, if at all fix it. If it turns out to be the board what are they worth and what are the CRT tubes worth.
Thanks
Rhys

Before you do anything, read the main website, including the FAQ, tube condition, etc. All CRT stuff is now do it yourself, you're not going to find a tech that can or wants to look at it, or if they do, they'll charge you a fortune to do so.
Fortunately between here and the main site, there's a pile of info so that you can carefully get into the unit yourself and do some diagnosing, etc. Frankly, the cost of shipping is probably going to be more than the parts at this point, as these 12XX are now considered to be entry level sets with almost no value. I sold a mint 1272 for $400 last month. 10 years ago they were selling used for $2500+ on the used market.
Check the tube condition first before you do anything. If the blue tube is less than about a 6 on the scale of 1-10, then there's no point in doing anything with the set. Blue tubes wear first and are very hard to find. I sold a new one about 2 months ago for $100, and that was the first mint one I'd had in months.

Hi all
Update on projector. Found a local repair shop and got a call to say it was ready to be picked up, cost $327.00 to get it fixed. Asked about the tubes and they seem ok. Looking forward to getting it home and trying it out. I guess I should at some stage keep an eye out for spare tubes.
