After being dragged to Eclipse, Cats and Dogs II and some other flick that either the g/f or her kids chose, I took her 15 year old son and his friend to go see the Expendables tonight.
Talk about the palette being cleansed from the crap I saw earlier this summer.
Death, mindless violence, strangely enough, no hot chicks to distract from the testosterone flowing, what a fun flick! A must have on BR, if just for the bass of the guns going off. Thumbs up from me!
Oh, the third movie was Inception. I thought I was missing something in the plot right to the end, and had the g/f explain it to me. Nope, I missed nothing. Not my cup of tea at all..

I was wondering about Expendables. About time they got all the action guys in one flick. Just wasn't sure if it was one of those films where all the best parts are the ones shown in the trailer.

I'm looking forward to Expendables on bluray, mainly because it has Bruce Willis. It's hard to go wrong with Bruce Willis - a friend of mine showed me a Thanksgiving segment on Letterman where Willis showed up with a "Yippie Kay-Ay Turkey Cooker", subtitled, "Fry Hard With A Vengeance". Fantastic stuff.
He also kicked ass in Sin City, though I suppose that's old news to you guys.
By the way - if you want to get the taste of chirpy movies out of your mouths, grab Children of Men. I didn't really have any expectations going in, aside from a vague prejudice against dystopian futures (they're so used up). But it was just amazing. There were some bits of "oh, here it comes" exposition (odd from a director who talks about how much he hates exposition) but everything else was done so frighteningly well that at the end of the movie, my wife and friend and I just sat there, stunned, while the credits rolled.
It wasn't cheerful, and it wasn't really 'entertaining' per se, but it was an incredible experience; there should be a screenshot next to 'riveting' in the dictionary.
Probably old news to you guys too, but hey...
Also, I'd just redone the subs in my HT, and added some... during the first big LFE moment, my wife and friend actually jumped into the air!

The major action sequence in Children of Men was just amazing. I heard it was shot continuous and was incredibly difficult to pull off. You really get a frightening feeling watching it. If I remember a tank was involved too. The movie overall was good imho, not amazing, and the ending was a bit of a disappointment.
