So I just picked up a spare 34.9KV HVPS, and the part number is different than the one in my machine. 10-000310-02p Issue 2 (in machine) and the one I just got is a 10-000310-01P Issue 3. What's the difference? Both output the same, so any performance differences?

If the top cover over the potted section is indented, then that's the Ultra version, which is supposed to be more reliable than the non Ultras, that had the two top covers level with one another.
Performance is identical, design is somewhat different.
I have had the odd Ultra supply die too, and personally I think Spellman has always blown smoke up everyone's ascii to look good..

Notice the name on the power supply. People rag on AmPro's regularly for just that reason, but it's ok if it's in a Marquee
Someone should start a thread listing common failure points of various projectors. That way failure rates based on shear numbers of projectors produced does not count, only what does fail. I think it would be interesting to see which one is actually the most reliable or at least the fewest common failure points. I wonder who would win

Thanks Mike and Curt. I can see the difference in the screen shots. Looks like a better passive cooling design in the 02P. Do any of you know what was done between Issue2 and Issue 3 on the 02P? Looks like the same boards were used between the two. One could potentially turn a 01P into a 02P. I need to open up my 02P and compare it to these pics. Great stuff!
Chip, I agree. All kidding aside with the Marquee and Ampro jokes, it would be an interesting exercise to see failure points between various makes. I think numbers will play a part in the results regardless though. Components and date codes change over time. What was once a robust design, many not be so in a different batch, especially as these designs get older and these components are no longer manufactured and you run into counterfeits. I imagine CRT biz guys like Tim, Curt, Mike can produce a healthy list on their own from their experience.
Edit:
I looked again at the pics, and their are differences in the board design. THe 02P does look like an improvement from a cooling perspective, but if you guys never felt it in HVPS reliability, I guess it doesn't matter much, certainly not for us Home Theatre folk that don't leave it on 24/7.

Are the daughterboards interchangeable? I was going to swap them as a troubleshooting measure.
I was having problems with pulsing brightness with raster size changing in unison- putting in my spare HVPS solved the problem. I'd already looked at other causes- a few other threads here noted the same issue. I did the MP Maintenance Mods a few months ago, when I first got the HVPS.
The problematic HVPS is a 10-000310-02P issue 3, 34.9kV. The one that works is an oldie- 10-234-01P, 34.0kV The daugherboards are slightly different-looking, different numbers, the old one has ICs in sockets, the new one has everything soldered in place.
Should I just get another HVPS?
Thanks, Mark
