Hi,
I have a NEC XG 1350 that needs to be retubed and I Have a brand new set of tubes. In the quest of picture quality is it worth the time and effort to turn it into a liquid-coupled (LC)?
I know some will say get a XG 1100 lc or XG1351 lc and put your new tubes in it. As you all know upgrading a projector is a sickness and just needs to be done. We all heard it before my Sony 1252 cost me $300.00 seven years ago and is still going strong. If I added up all the upgrades I have done, IFB input cards, Moome DVI card fury2 HDMI , lenses, 21point convergence boards. I'm sure that would add up to another $1000.00. The wife will not go for another whole projector but Parts I can sneak in under my coat.

Thanks,
Dan

I believe all it would take are the LC hardware on the tubes (lenses included) and you also need the bracket that goes across the top of the 3 tubes.

Tube brackets top and bottom.

Some filing/grinding of the chassis on a xxx0 generation XG (they changed the chassis slightly for the later generations).

Where are you going to get the brackets? I got some made (have CAD models/drawings) and it cost a coupla hundred bucks.

At this stage it would be cheaper to get a toasted 1101LC chassis than getting the brackets made. If Curt is will to gut a chassis for the brackets...well, you may as well take the whole chassis and do it properly - just fit your bare tubes.

Mark,
Even if I get a great deal on a toasted 1101LC chassis. What is shipping going to cost from Curt? Anyone here local in Michigan willing to part with a toasted NEC LC unit?

It cost me A$175 to ship an XG from Perth to Melbourne.

That's the same as LA to NY.

At least get the LC bits and tube brackets from it.

Mark,
I think i have every thing i need to do the swap. tubes,lc,chambers, lenses, upper and lower mounts and front cover. A Big Thank You to Tom for parting out his 1351. I may need your help if you don't mind. The xg1350 was used in a rear projection setup made by NEC. The lenses have no numbers on them at all. Any way to tell 144's from 145's? they look to be color corrected green and red anyway blue is clear.

Thanks,
Dan

If you haven't used your XG as it currently is yet (if you just got it) When you do get it all setup, i think you will be quite stunned on the XG PQ quality over the 1252 (I sure as hell was Very Happy)

Hi,
Anyone know why there is black tape at the top and bottom of the C-elements? The blue coolant chamber was emptied.
Should I rinse it out with water? I don't want the coolant to dry up in the chamber.
Thanks,
Dan

Hi,
Have a look at this: green and red C elements are fine. The black tape on the blue C element was bubbled up. I tried to smooth it out but it would not stick. When I removed the tape this what it looked like. should I get a new one or put new tape over it.
Thanks,
Dan

good question, looks too uniform to be a DIY job, maybe something done specifically for rear projection?
Glycol doesn't really dry out, it's almost like an oil.

All LC NEC's have those tapes there for masking purposes, so that stuff is just glue residue. Put some masking over it, or it could cause same reflection from glue residue.

I have planned similar masking to my BG808s LC, there is some ABL glow at top of tubes.

Hi,
Can I put the whole tube with electronics and lc chambers from the 1351 or should I use the electronics that are in 1350. I know I have to use the 1350 neck boards what about the focus coils magnets ect...
Thanks,
Dan

I don't know for certain. I think they are interchangeable, but...

I would swap them, use all the coils and magnets from the 1350.

And yes, you must use the 1350 neckboards.

Hi,
As the snow falls and the outdoor activities come to an end. It's time to start working on the tube swap. I had my V-Drive board updated (thanks Curt) and was able to remove the broken Green tube from the LC housing. I can center the new tube in the housing. How much weight should be on the tube to hold it down and what kind of sealant should I use?
Thanks,
Dan

Black Acetic cure silicone.

And I used a few kilos - part of a lathe, a steel plate with a hole in the centre. Resting on the 4 pads on the rear of the tube.
