OK, so I like my LG BH100. Great video playback and it does 480i over HDMI for the times I actually watch a DVD (so the Lumi gets all the scaling duties).

But, the LG has some lip sync issues. We recently watched Up In the Air and I had to pause and play about 11 times to remedy lip sync. So, my wife has put her foot down and she doesn't want to put up with it anymore.

I really don't need any bells and whistles. I buy a BD player to play things on little silver discs (imagine that!). I don't need the crap quality streaming they come with or any other stuff.

So, I just need to play BDs in 1080p/24. Analog audio out is a great bonus, but not necessary. What I would really like is 480i HDMI--but that is not a listed thing on any spec sheets (hell the spec sheets for my LG BH100 doesn't say it does 480i HDMI but it does). Other than that, I just prefer that it IS NOT a Sony product!

So, does anyone know of a list of 480i HDMI BD players or of one in particular?

Currently I'm looking at the Sammy BD-C6500 (great picture, analog out, not Sony, < $200, etc) but prolly doesn't do 480i HDMI. Any thoughts on this guy appreciated too.

Guess I need to finally decide to replace or just trash my few HD DVDs. Sad

TIA

Yep, had to so I could play Avatar. Has it dimished your lip sync issues?

Checking Oppo just dawned on me. They claim that the BDP-80 will do 480i HDMI.

Has anyone verified this? Will it auto select based upon display's EDID and the disc type? I'll check with them, but I always prefer first had enthusiast reports.

Secondly, I see no reason to go for the BDP-83, it looks like the $110 price difference only gets you VERY trivial stuff. Thoughts?

I really never had any, and if i did usually a pause then play fixed it. Its been awhile since I used it.
I then got the BH200 which for me worked flawlessly, and I now have the Oppo 83. visually i still like the BH100. But the Oppo has features which make it blend friendly like the subtitle shift and the 1/2 zoom for 1:78 movies on a 2.4 screen.

I keep the BH100 in the rack for any European titles I have.

Oh, it does fix it, but with many Sony and Paramount titles, we have to do it multiple times during the movie. Inglourious Basterds was another that we had to pause and play nearly a dozen times during the movie. Most Warner and Fox titles are flawless (there have been a couple Fox titles with minor issues, but most good).

I thought about getting a BH200 but it seems to have lip sync issues also and costs as much used as a decent new BD player. So, I figured I'd go BD player because my HD DVD collection is kind of small (I don't buy many movies--I prefer to rent as it is more cost effective).

Hmmm, by this I'm assuming you mean the video output of the BH100 is better than the Oppo. This concerns me. It looks like the BD output of the 83 and 80 are identical so this worries me (83 just adds better scaling which I won't use and a couple very trivial things IMO).

So, if Oppo output not on par with LG, I guess I'll keep searching. Smile

Oh, one last thing, I read more and it looks like the Oppo has a "source direct" mode which should automatically do 480i HDMI for DVD and 1080p/24 for BDs. Have you used this and if so, have you had any problems with it?

Thanks for the input.

Let me clarify the "visually it looks better to me" , I am not sure what it is exactly but i prefer the Bh100 image not due to clarity but colors, maybe they were over saturated. I am not sure but this is from a CRT view point. On your new digital it might look different to me.
So clarity and sharpness and overall purity of the image they are on par, only Color wise i liked the bH100 better. its a subjective view I admit.

I would not count it out, and i would whole heartedly recommend the Oppo BDP83. I tried a sony(forgot model and the LG 390) both Borrowed from friends, the Oppo is better than those.

just wanted to give you another chance, And I think Oppo has a nice return policy if you do not like it.
