I'm thinking of adding a digital to my HT for gaming. (kids leave it on) I found this one for a decent price.

Has anyone had any bad experiences with one to share?

TV/Projector: All of them!

I sold two Hitachis about 5 years ago. When time came to replace the bulb, I was quoted 4-6 weeks, as no one in North America had stock. The second one nuked the LCD display (blue bleeding) during the second bulb, but the customer (Best Buy's head office, go figure) never cleaned the filter, which was disgusting when I yanked the set down.

It had a problem with the power supply and if it showed itself you had to replace it with a different number supply.

Its a commercial unit so it must have all those super high performance parts in it and should last forever........ HAHAHA........HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.............HAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHHAHAHA !!!!!!!!!!!

If you need to know anything specific just ask. Very Happy

I can easily pull a service or user manual for it.

BTW, if the kids 'leave it on', shouldn't you be going CRT rather than digital? Wink

This is the main reason that I am using a CRT projector. I didn't want to have to worry about my son leaving the PJ on after playing PS3 or Wii, which a 7 year old does all of the time.

I just don't want the wii screen burnt into my crt. I don't care if the digital gets fried.

If you look at digitals of this variety (XGA) as expendable items like I look at flat panels then I guess it is fine. I would think this would be <<$1K considering what could be had for $1K in the flash light world.

I guess at $150.00 it is expendable. I spend that on a nice dinner.

Yes, at $150 it is paper towel expendable. Smile

I was going to say hold out for HDMI, but for Wii and at $150, that's a fine projector.

Do not judge modern LCD projectors based on this one, though. It's a data grade projector with 500:1 contrast so you'll have some pretty lousy color rendering. But it'll be very, very bright and great for playing low res video games on. You'll probably be able to see it okay with the lights on in the room.

Just curious if you considered something like the digital galaxy projectors... They are low res (800x600) but are incredibly cheap ($350 new), have bulbs that last for 5000 hours and cost $40 to replace. I'm sure the PQ is brutal but it sounds like that's a bit of a non issue in this case. That's probably the route I would go if I were in the market for a throwaway digital...
