I have had a sony D 50 in use for about 6 months / 150 hours and I was quite happy with the picture, but lately I have had weird pumping of brightness in picture, first noticed in only really dark scenes, then almost all the time. it reminds me of the macrovision pumping I used to see in vhs years ago. anyone had similar and care to guess what component is going`?
if someone has some pics of insides of D 50 would love to see them.

otherwise unit has worked great, convergence hasnīt been drifting, have adjusted it just few times in 6 months.

I think the D50 has AKB. If it does, you might want to try turning AKB off though I doubt that is it.

Do all three tubes "pump" together, or do you think this is only happening in one tube?

I tried to turn off AKB but the pic became way too dark and I dont want to mess everything else if this is a failing part. It happens on all tubes. I assumed its something to do with power source but picture size doesnt change and there are no other visible changes, just the brightness issue.

That sounds exactly like the brightness pumping I had running 1080p on my G70. Disabling AKB fixed the problem. It does get dark when turn off AKB, and you will need to raise the BIAS control to compensate, but it will probably fix the issue.

Have you switched resolutions or sources since the problem started? How about screen size or re-calibration?

I changed sources (from a laptop running 1280x800 with 5 bnc to another desktop computer running 1280x720 into a dvi-card) and there was no change. screen size is 90" diagonal 16:9 which is the maximum I can get wall to wall in my small "theatre room" ( wife keeps telling me it supposed to be childrenīs room..)
