How ridiculous would these be for a home theater??
Only $600 at Full Compass

Crazy??? Probably.
Would you even need a sub with these across the front??

Doesn't seem ridiculous at all to me...
And yes you would still want subs.

Heck yes, they're only rated down to 45Hz +/- 3dB. You want another octave at least, down to at least 20Hz or lower.

My wife wouldn't understand it though...with three other 15" woofers at the front!
I am not crazy enough to try these in a room with 10' from seating position to screen.

What is important isn't what they look like, but what the sound like. If the only thing your wife will 'get' is appearance, but a Gucci badge on them and impress her.

Wan, his point wasn't that she would object to the looks... It would be that he spent $1800 on 3 gigantic speakers with huge drivers, and would STILL want to spend more an another giant box with a huge driver (sub).
You'd definitely need a sub, Greg... Like Gary said, there's an entire octave missing.
The low-frequency extension isn't the biggest problem I see, though. Those speakers are very efficient, and are designed for larger spaces... While they are very efficient (high SPL on not much amplifier power), I think with those big titanium compression horns in a small room, you'd have a very bright, very harsh sound.
Not to mention the placement issues with three cabinets that size in a typical HT. You'd need to go AT, and you'd probably burn at least 18" of your room (and throw, unless you move your projector back) doing it.
If I had a huge room (say 20x30 or so), and I was going scope/AT with masking, I'd probably have to try to go hear a set of these.

Bingo!
I don't really want these but if I ever get more space I would love to get some "real" cinema style speakers like these.
I was reading about the next step up from these and those were rated to THX standards for maximum 40' to back row! That is a theater!

No, sh*t... Some day, I'd love to have a big room. There's just no way to get that "big room" sound in a small room.
Greg, you should buzz over to eD and have a listen to a set of their A6-6T6's. I was really impressed for the money... $900 for all three mains. They'd probably knock a few bucks off if you picked them up, too.

I have heard that the towers sounded more like bookshelves...and thus I was thinking their A6 6T6 MTM bookshelves would sound about the same. That way I could save some moola and get the Dual sealed 13" DIY kit as well!
Might be heading down in a few weeks if I can get something set up.

Damn, that just makes me think about Moose and his love of JBL gear.
Hopefully he has the loudest home theater in Heaven.
