I use them with my pattern generators and they do wear out about every nine months or so. However, in a HT install where you don't disconnect and reconnect them regularly they will probably last much longer and may be fine.

Hey Craig,
How do they wear out? Connectors get loose and the like? In a "set it and forget it" situation where the connections may not be touched but once a year, they would be fine pretty much indefinitely, correct?

I was wondering the same thing. I had a breakout cable from pccables that I gave to the person who bought my PG. I started having issues with the blue cable. I wasn't sure if it was the cable/connector or the pj connector. I was pretty sure it was the cable.
I am probably going to grab a 6 footer this week. I think I may get some BNC cables as well. Are the bundled cables better than the single cables? I will plug it into a VGA HD15 to BNC breakout adapter. Clarence if you are reading, did you ever use these things?

woah back up a second...most anything over 1ft may cause ringing with the tiny coax in these breakouts. 3ft would probably be OK but if you want PQ out of this cable, I wouldn't get a 6ft. I had a 10ft and it caused major ringing on an 8500. I've built multiple 25ft cables by buying the 1ft breakout I linked to and five 25' BNC M-M RG59 cables. Here's the 6ft RG59, it's out of stock but you could get 12ft: http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10203&cs_id=1020307&p_id=626&seq=1&format=2

Ben,
I never had a problem with the 3 footer I purchased from pccables. If I am going that route with a 1 footer, then I might as well try the adapter. I am going to try to stop by Scott's place on the way back to Atl in a couple of weeks. Maybe I can get him to test the adapter.

I've used a 25' breakout cable from Monoprice and had no issues.

Connections between a BNC and the cable becomes flaky and you can loose a color or sync. If you bend the cable / BNC connection around and wiggle it, you'll restore intermittent connections.
I probably connect and reconnect my pattern generator cables a couple hundred times a year, so I suspect in a set it and forget it installation you will not have any issue. I do however think that it reflects poorly on the build quality of the cable. The break out cable that came with my VP403 is still good after five years of use. The only reason I still use these is cheap cables is because I have a dozen or so left here still. Once they are gone I will switch to a better brand.

Craig,
That is exactly what was happening with my pccable cable.
Maybe I should just go ahead and buy some cable making equipment.

That's what I am thinking as well. I don't have any tools here for putting BNC's onto mini-coax, but that may be the very best thing to do.
