Hey dudes,
I've just took down my Marquee to do the magnetics setup!
It had to be taken down because of the way the lenses are mounted (modified standard adaptors with HD-144 lenses).
I've just had a look at the tubes for the first time and I am pleased to say they're absolutelt spotless! All 9/10!
Here's a pic I took of the tubes with on the red tube the 16:9 masking the previous owner applied still in place. This is supposed to help with better contrast, do you guys think it's best to put some new masking back when I'm done centering?
Alright, so I'm gonna start out centering now, I'm using the Bill Blue Setup 101. Do you guys have any pointers for me? Anything more than that guide to help me get this baby aligned right, no convergence drift, perfect 1080p?
Cheers!

Alrught guys, I have a question:
I am now ready to center the grids. I've relaxed the 2-pole magnets and I'm ready to center. I have seen before that my Horizontal C Linearity has to be adjusted to a number like 15 to get the geometry right.
Do I set the H C Linearity now? Or do I just center the grids without it? (Because I know when I use H C Linearity later the center of the grid will move one way...)

Hello
Yes, set H linearity first; 15 is a typical value for a linear grid.

Thank you, Tim in Phoenix!
It's done!
Another question:
When I center the red it is possible to move the focus yoke around in every direction. When I center blue, a little less so, and when i have green centered it requires some force to push the focus yoke in the direction it needs to be and has absolutely no further movement left in that direction.
Is this normal? Can I do anything about it?
I am anticipating that it's going to be really hard setting the 2-pole this way!

That's the thing, Athanasios... It moves freely in other directions but in the direction of the center it seems to be maxed out...

Yeah, I know! I also rotated it... Just centered is the best I can get it. I tried this before, when it was on the ceiling and that time I couldn't get the flare set properly and center the grid. The grid had to be about 3" off center...

Also, can you show us a picture of the lens mounts? I do not see why you had to remove the Scheimflug screws, getting those back on is not easy with the springs. Getting it back to factory settings is not easy.
Also you should really look for a 6 pole CPC magnets, and you know that the magnetic field on the ceiling will be different than on the floor. So getting them perfect now will doesn't matter as on the ceiling they can change and you will have to do it again. but its good for practice on the floor.

Hi Athanasios,
Yes, I Initialized the PJ, as well setting all focus and Stig to 50. I did it all according to the manual (Bill Blue).
I got the lenses back on quite easily, in fact, it's back on the ceiling as we speak! I've had the Scheimpflug screws out before, it was not hard to get the Scheimpflug set afterwards.
Do you mean I should get some 6-pole's? Because there's definitely none on the PJ right now, but as I understand it, they're for triangularity only, right?
I have just taken tje PJ down to center the grids, just like Bill Blue says. The rest of the convergence I will do on the cailing.
I'm just worried that I will never get that green tube centered and the flare set right without using a lot of convergence just like it has been...

Hey guys, next question:
The Horizontal C Linearity I was talking about seems about right at 15... For green and red... For blue however, it seems better at around 50... Is there any way to cure this without using mammoth covergence?
Also, since the H C Lin. needs to be at around 15, doesn't this also mean that the convergence circuit is going to have a hard time?

I see what they did!! I dont like that Hd 145 mount, looks like a hack job and if its mounted the way I think the lens is too far from the tube face. Do yourself a favor and get a proper set. They might be the reason you cant dial it in right. if the Green lens is not exactly straight in that mount it will screw things up on the screen.
And the six poles help a lot and you wont need the electronic astig as much. Also they do move the raster some so it might help with the green

Hey guys,
After spending hours on end trying to perfect the magnetics setup, I decided to settle for an acceptable result.
The shiny dots are not exactly centered inside the blobs but on each tube, the raster varies around ½" from focus 0-100. I guess this is about the same as when I started out. I did learn a lot so I'm satisfied for now!
I have done all the setup on 31KHz, as recommended. I converged the rasters roughly on 31Khz, but all I use are higher bandwidths, so those are the ones I really want to converge perfectly. So I connected my HTPC to do some cenverging. I noticed though, that when I switched on the HTPC, the raster moved about 2½" to the right! So, I turned the HTPC off, and the PJ as well, then started up the PJ again. Now the raster is back in the center. I copied the memory to Recall 1 and switched the PC on again. The raster moved to the right once again, and loading the Recall memory didn´t change a thing.
Now I´m pretty sure there must be some solution for this, right? Otherwise I can always swivel the PJ but that would mean all my careful centering on the tube faces would have been for naught. I would have to do the centering by Convergence and that is just the thing I'm trying to avoid!
Regards, Elwin

Hey Athanasios,
I did a full Initialisation before I started but I will see if they're off. Thanks!
