One night about 1-2 month ago, my Barco Cine7 shut down suddenly when it’s on. Trying to start it up, I observed a flickering image up and down for about 10-30 secs then everything seemed fine.

I knew something wrong with my PJ because…
- After that night, I observe a flickering image for about 10-30 secs every time I start it up.
- Vertical frequency is 50 Hz (shown on PJ by switching the input port) right after start-up then goes to 60 Hz (actual video format) after 10-30 secs to get a stable image.
- A zigzag pattern (dim for bright scene but visible for dark scene) is at the same location of R/G/B tubes.

I though my PJ was aging and tried to get used to the defect. But now I can never start it up. No light came from the 3 tubes. SF led lit up. All green leds were OK. Opening the chassis (thanks for the guidance of this web site), I found all the fuses on SMPS are OK but a red led in the mid of deflection board lit up.

Can I fix my PJ by replacing the deflection board? I am in Taiwan so I may have to do it myself. Please help me. Thanks.

It's hard to say for sure where problem is. Bad deflection board or smps power supply can cause SF.

If it's HV related problem there should be Hold Down EHT LED on.
Then it could be shorted tube or one of HV components.

Test with working deflection board first.

Thanks Ile. I'll try to find a working deflection board.

There are two red LEDss on the deflection board. One or the other is probably on, indicating an H or V failure. The problem can also be on the video input board that drives the deflection board. I have all parts for the 708 series, for very cheap.

Thanks, Curt. I'm on sure if video input board was OK. I observed a flickering image and dim zigzag patterns with all external inputs and internal video formats at that time.

Please let me know how to buy a deflection board (a tag on it showing R7627625. Is it the ID?) and the cost of the board and shipping (to Taiwan).

It seems very complicate to replace the video input board. Can you tell me more about how to replace it? Thanks.

Send me an email to curtpalme@shaw.ca.

The video input board slides out the back, and you need to disconnect all those wires from the board. I agree, it's probably OK.

Thanks!

My PJ is almost fixed after replacing the two bad fuses of deflection board. One remaining issue is image flickering when cold start-up no matter external or internal signal. It’s OK when PJ is warm.

I tried to adjust the vertical frequency lock trim pot. Not 100% cured. Is the deflection board still bad around vertical frequency lock circuit? Should I check anything else?

By the way, I found a 17V check point in focus board. It’s actually 17.6V but I don’t know where is the trim pot. Is it related to vertical frequency lock? Please let me know how to adjust it.
