Okay so I just got the projector and I want to set it up for a basement theater. I have the component video card to go into the projector - do I need to change and dip switches prior to installing it? What are your opinions of the HDMI cards - should I get one and which one? Do I need a line doubler/scaler? From a component standpoint my thought was to get a Marantz AV Pre-Amp, I have two amps, a Blu Ray DVD and ??? As you can see I am a Neophyte so any thoughts, opinions, advice you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I did score a 117" diagonal 92" wide electric Daylite drop down screen on the cheap. My goal is to attach DirectTV HD receiver to it and Blu-Ray player. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, Joe!
If I have one bit of advice for you, it's to read, read, and read some more! This forum is a wealth of information. Read Kal's excellent CRT Primer and the "Hooking it all up!" part of the document.
http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTPrimer.shtm
http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTPrimer_17.shtm
Basically, you'll want to connect up your system like this:
Source -> HDMI cable -> Marantz Pre -> HDMI cable -> HD Fury 2 -> YPrPb component or RGBHV cable -> 1270 IFB input card
You'll probably want to run 1080i with Blu-ray and DirecTV.
Start reading, remember to try searching for what you're wondering about before you post, and if you're still confused, ask away.

...With the one major exception to the similarity being that the 1270 doesn't have an hour counter... So, don't go looking for one.

.....just to add to what SC said. Nor does the 1270 have the 2 digit error message read out....So, don't go looking for one

Thanks guys for the assistance. I will let you know how everything comes out after it is hooked up. What are you guys using for remotes to set everything up? This one did not come with one.

You really need an external remote if you don't have one. "Uncomfortable" doesn't begin to describe spending several hours hunched over a machine trying to use the built-in controller.
See if Don still has one left over:

If he doesn't have any left, set up a search on ebay for RM-1270, RM-1271, RM-1292 - they'll all work with your 1270. You can probably pick one up for <$20 these days. You could also try a WTB ad here - somebody might have one laying around.

Hey I set my 1252 up on vacation stradling a 1" thick pine coffee table. It wasn't too bad BUT get a remote.
