If I go into the Installation menu I get the authorized message and hit enter pj's output goes black. I get I2C error addr:BAH at different times while in the menus. Cycling the power is the only reset to when it goes black.

BAH, it's not worth repairing.
(sorry, couldn't help myself.)
BAH error is...nothing. It doesn't exist, at least not on the document on the site. I'll have to pull the 1209s s/manual to let you know what board it's on. If everything works, then it's most likely not that important, but if you want, you can manually go through every function in the set, and once you hit the command that is defective/doesn't respond, the BAH should come up solid instead of flashing.
Here's a list of the error codes for the 1200, maybe you're not seeing the error correctly?

If the 1209s is a complex unit with all the options installed, then BAH could be something like the H linearity control, which is a small module on the convergence board. The set will work, but that one command won't.

When going into the installation menu why does it go black and a power cycle is the only way to reset pj?

Maybe it's error code for some of those chips in controller, I think that's where internal programs like installation menu is coming from. My 1209s service manual don't have error codes, so can't say for sure.
I don't use installation menu, because it's useless. You have to adjust everything again with active source connected.
But if you wan't to fix it, maybe swapping controller board help.
