Hi All - I'm buying a ~19yr old home that comes with a project already installed (not sure if it's working or not yet). We haven't closed on the house yet and I only have one not so good pic - any ideas what make (or model) it could be? Maybe Barco? I'd like to get a head start on things given this is the first CRT. Smile

Barco 1208 or 1209 or 1209s. Tell them that they should pay you to take it away. Very Happy

Yep, Barco 120x, or one of the Runco clones of the same.

Thanks for the quick response. So are you guys saying this is likely a decent projector (assuming it works)? I'm a total newbie to the CRT world but a geek at heart so excited to dive in to this new world.

It really depends on the condition of the tubes. It could be a really excellent projector that in many was competes with $5000+ digital projectors currently on the market, or if the tubes are badly worn, the PQ won't be so great, and it might only be worth enough as parts if you sold them all off to get you a cheap entry-level digital projector. It totally depends on the condition of the tubes. Cross your fingers it's a Barco 1209 (or Runco equivalent), and that the tubes are snow white. Once you get in and can snap some pics, we can tell you more about the machine. It's not like you'll have anything else to do. Wink

If you need a little break from all the house-buying crap and want to learn a little more about a CRT projectors, have a read through the CRT Primer:
http://www.curtpalme.com/CRTPrimer.shtm

Here's a page on tube condition that will give you an idea what I'm talking about:

Isn't there some kind of identification label on the rear of it?

I'm sure there is some sort of identification on the unit but I didn't think to look when we were in the house for the inspections...all I got is the pic above. Time will tell. Smile

I'm guessing it's a Runco DTV-1101 from the scant bit of lettering seen on the cover.

I was able to get into the house yesterday for a bit and found out it is in fact the Runco DTV-1101 (jkruger - impressive ID). The unit isn't even plugged into power (not sure what they did with the power cord) so I couldn't tell if it would even boot up. Once we're in the house officially how should determine if the unit is in good working order? Plug in a VGA cable from a PC?

Nice A 9 inch set, lucky dog!! Emdawgz(John) live in Philly, not sure how far from you but I bet if he gets some time he'd be willing to help out a new guy.

Good luck with it and lets hope it has nice tubes!

We can help to get it going. Nice score, that was a $40K projector in the day.

Yes, you can feed it an SVGA signal from a computer, but make sure the laptop is putting out NEGATIVE sync.

Press '5' on the keypad to select the RGB input, and you should get an image that will probably be all out of whack, but at least you'll know the set works. If it's dead or otherwise does not show an image, I've got all the parts to get it going. THe set is modular, so no need to pull the set off the ceiling. Add an HDFury and you can feed a digital signal to the set.

I have a customer in Bryn Mawr, a pro shop, who is good with CRT's if you need help.
Does anyone else here think the machine looks like it's way too far back from the screen?
